As an older person I limit the walks that I do to about half to one hour duration. This walk would have to rate as one of the best I have been on. The drive out is mainly on asphalt however the road is gravel...More

We went on this walk as part of a gold hunting package. The original plan was to pan for gold on the beach, but the water was so rough. Our guy Pete from the Gold Coast NZ Tours in Greymouth took us here instead. It...More

Fabulous backroads drive in!! No tar seal, so I love it! NZ at its most authentic and old-fashioned. Easy and worthwhile walk in forest and along fascinating tracks with old mine workings from 100 years ago.

This is an amazing and interesting walk. You can walk quite deep into underground tunnels and there’s even some glow worms. It took about 1he to complete the circuit. The drive there involves a few sections on unsealed roads - a couple of sections on...More

This walk is certainly worth the effort to see and understand how these miners of yesterday year made a living. It’s hard to believe the work they carried out by digging tunnels, waterways, trails all by hand using all hand tools. Living here during the...More

Further on from Shantytown, the road isn't the best, but the track is worth the drive in, good for your soul

This was by far the most interesting mining site we have been to. We had an average sedan which took a bit of a beating towards the end of the road, but still doable. Took some fantastic photos, beautiful bush, birdlife and amazing caves.

Our family of 5 (including 3 older teenagers) loved this easy hike just past the Shantytown area. It wasn't easy to find (keep driving on the highway that becomes a gravel road until you finally get to the sign, which is where you park), but...More

The road to Woods Creek is rough but the drive is worth it. This trek takes less than an hour—if you don’t stop for a million photos—so plan for more time. Take a torch (flashlight), realize there are steps, take your dog (on a lead),...More

Free! No parking cost or national park charges. Make sure you have Vehicle though because it's a challenging drive on a rocky road.
