GROUNDS, GARDENS AND FARM AREA open seven days per week. Entry to the house only available by guided tour on weekends and public holidays or anytime for organized groups of 8 or more. Also, Saumarez Café only open weekends 10am to 4pm. This unique house and farm museum has over 10,000 objects in its collection. Stunning historic country homestead with gardens, farm buildings and a cafe giving you an insight into rural life in the 1800's. Available to the public for tours, weddings, functions and events. This ten-hectare grazing property was first inhabited by British settlers led by Henry Dumaresq in the 1830's. Today it includes an elegant, extensive, fully furnished Edwardian homestead, built between 1888 and 1906, and 15 farm and other buildings dating up to 1910, with their collections of early farm equipment. Take a guided tour through the White family's 30 room Edwardian mansion complete with original furnishings. Stroll through Mary White's garden, with its Jocelyn Brown style cottage garden, the picking garden, the heritage rose garden and the lawns. Visit outbuildings complete with 19th century tools and equipment. Allow at least half a day to see this extensive property, and experience 19th century pastoral life.

Well worth a visit to learn all about the heritage of this old homestead. Tour is well worth it as its the only way to see inside the house. Tour guides are volunteers but very knowledgeable and lots of humour amongst the facts. Only downside...More

Even though we didn’t have the opportunity to take a tour through the homestead it was still worth visiting to take a walk through the gardens. The rose gardens were beautiful and there were lots of autumn trees which looked great this time of year....More

It was a lovely day to have a walk around the gardens and the tour of the house was full of history about the families that have lived there.

I loved being able to take the tour inside this beautiful heritage property. I think the guide was very knowledgeable about this property. I would love to see a bit of restoration to go along with the conservation that the National Trust is currently working...More

We (four friends) looked forward to visiting this property - the web site presented it very attractively. As it was a weekday the house was closed. Unfortunately, the gardens are in a desolate state. The Heritage Rose Garden has clearly been planned very well, and...More

The homestead is only open on the weekend and public holidays. The gardens are not worth the $7 entrance fee. The roses weren't in bloom and the rest of the gardens were disappointing.

Road seemed to go forever full of potholes and red dirt supposedly being graded the next day. Seniors entry to garden was $5 each and overgrown. Nothing like the picture nor the beautifully maintained National Trust houses of Melbourne.More

We went to the homestead and the gardens were spectacular. To look at the DVD and listen to the history of Saumarez are amazing. Such a colourful and rich history. November is a good time to visit the rose garden.
