We did the trip from Christchurch to Blenheim and return. Seats are comfy and the carrages have large viewing windows. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food was yummy and reasonably priced. A great family experience.More

Took the Christ Church to Picton to the ferry-Luggage was transferred for us. Spent a lot of time on the observation car taking photos. Pass trough 21 tunnels,all short. Just follow the beach up the east coast of the south island. Dining car.

Lovely big windows to look out of, comfortable chairs (must sit on right side of train to be on the coast) Small cafe on board to buy drinks and snacks.
