The dam opening was not quite as spectacular as the YouTube video but novel nonetheless. The recommended lookouts are easy to walk to and give grandstand views.

If you are in Taupo you must add the Huka Falls to your plans. I took my son for his first visit and he was blown away by the power and volume of water that is channeled through this natural marvel.
