It’s interesting to watch the land submerged in water as the flood gates open and later reappear as the gates close. It’s free and I usually take visitors there for something to do.

Amazing to see how much water there is that fills the canyon when they open the gates. The water is an amazing blue colour.

Well worth the quick drive. Make sure you check the release times to catch the water releasing from the dam.

Our first visit to Huka Falls was the walking tour. Really impressive. We had just signed on for the river boat tour and had time to see the rapids before the boat left.

Make sure you check the website for the gates opening times and ensure you allow extra to walk the tracks up to the lookout points.

Huka Falls is a must see. The colours, noise and shear power of the water is incredible to witness. Some walking tracks throughout the area for all types of fitness level.

The maintenance meant the rapids were running at all times - doesn’t look like it will be maintenance for just today. Anyway it meant that the rapids were running at all times. The sign was only on the carpark side so most of us looking...More

Must see this not far out of town either. They release the water from the Waikato River over the dam wall 3 times daily. How about the sirens?? The Huka Falls are upstream of the dam.
