I went on a 12 day tour of the Kimberley’s with Adventure Wild starting 5 July. I came from the UK especially and it was well worth the journey. There had been unexpected rain a week or so before and some of the road crossings were flooded but the wonderful team at Adventure Wild, and Gools & Thommo (G&T) in particular, made sure that we still had a fantastic trip.

The Kimberley’s are beautiful, and we visited some wonderful gorges, billabongs and waterfalls. Saw sunrises and sunsets and wildlife – G&T are very knowledgeable so we knew what we were looking at.

The campsites were great fun – ranging from full facilities to just a cold tap – it was a great experience to sleep under so many stars. We had lovely meals – I don’t know how Gools managed to cook such tasty food with so few facilities. The whole experience was made enjoyable by G&T’s organisation and tireless work throughout the 12 days.

This was one of the best multi day adventure tours I have ever done. The team at Adventure Wild are courteous, professional and thorough and there is nothing left out, or to chance. Each day of the 12 day tour was packed full of fun and adventure led by the most amazing guides. My wife and I made a number of side trips that were all booked in by Adventure Wild so the experience was seamless. The food was amazing! The tents and swags so comfortable that we slept like logs! The camp sites and amenities clean and of a good standard. The Kimberley must be seen to be appreciated and this is the way to do it; with a professional company. I could not recommend this trip and Adventure Wild more highly.

I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a magnificent 12-day journey through the captivating Kimberley Region, and I must say, it was an experience beyond compare. Highly recommended by an old school friend, the tour took place on the 14th of July, 2023, and brought together a diverse and lively group of friendly couples and adventurous individuals, ranging in age from 55 to an inspiring 80-year-old traveller.

From the very start, our tour guides, Liz and Phil, impressed us with their consummate professionalism. Their caring, passionate approach combined with a fantastic sense of humour made the journey engaging, educational, and truly enjoyable. The itinerary was superbly organized, transforming our trip into a world-class experience filled with varied adventures and spectacular scenery.

One aspect that struck me was the depth of my newfound understanding of the Kimberley Region. Having grown up in Australia, it was humbling to realize how little I knew about this magnificent part of my own country.

The tour exceeded all my expectations, thanks to the meticulous attention to detail spearheaded by Simone and Karl. The operation ran like a well-oiled machine, allowing us to focus solely on immersing ourselves in the stunning landscapes, forging new friendships, and capturing our experiences through countless photographs. The breathtaking gorges and sensational national parks that adorned our journey left us in awe at every turn.

Our accommodation was comfortable, featuring top-quality tents and swags, complete with a mattress, a fitted and flat sheet, a pillow with pillowcase, and a sleeping bag that we could keep or ask for it to be donated to a Broome charity on our return. All meals and snacks were provided, and frequent hydration breaks were an essential part of maintaining energy and clarity in this environment (a groovy water canteen was provided).

During the day, we ventured on numerous treks through varied and sometimes challenging terrain, and trekking poles were thoughtfully provided, proving essential for many in our group. Safety was paramount throughout our journey, from the clean, air-conditioned, reliable 4WD bus to the practical advice offered for each trek. The Kimberley night sky was a sight to behold, offering excellent opportunities for astrophotography, and the sliding windows on the bus allowed for effortless landscape photography on-the-go.

Among the high points of the tour was the remarkable Cathedral Gorge, a natural amphitheatre with astounding acoustics, located within the World Heritage Listed Purnululu National Park. The vastness of our surroundings often left us speechless, and frequent swims in thermal pools, gorges, and rivers added an element of refreshment and fun to our journey.

Conveniently, laundry facilities were available at Kununurra and El Questro, the latter of which was an excellent spot for picking up unique gifts either in their gift shop/bar or from the artist-in-residence studio shop.

The indigenous healing circle held at El Questro was an optional activity and provided profound insights into some local indigenous culture. However, while on the Ord River Cruise we were somewhat disappointed when questions about indigenous history were brushed aside as being too political by that tour company.

Each night, we retired early, ready to embrace the dawn by 5 or 6 am, allowing us to make the most of our days. Along our journey, we encountered a variety of wildlife and admired the beautiful Boab trees lining our route. Birdwatching opportunities were abundant for those with a keen eye.

Packing advice: Thongs (flip-flops) for the showers are a must, and avoiding overpacking is wise. The canvas bag provided by Adventure Wild is a perfect size, strong, and easy to carry. Perhaps consider investing in a pair or two of Patagonia’s Happy Hike Studio Pants, which can be easily washed (a small squirt of detergent and water inside a zip-lock bag then agitated) and will dry by the following morning if you squeeze, wrap, squeeze again in a towel, and hang up in your tent overnight, making them ideal for travelling comfortably, easy to get on in the dark and after swims too!

Now I've returned home, I have countless cherished memories and an abundance of photographs to process, which I eagerly look forward to sharing with my fellow travellers and tour guides. To all those considering a journey through the Kimberley Region, I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. It was an awe-inspiring, outstanding experience that I will never forget. This is not just a trip; it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to deeply explore and appreciate the grandeur and beauty of the Kimberley Region.

For those contemplating when to book, I wholeheartedly recommend the cooler months of June, July, or August, as September begins to heat up apparently.
Well done Adventure Wild!

I have recently returned home after an amazing “Broome to Broome 12 day” tour with Gools (Cheryl) and Thommo (Wayne). Where do I start? I have so many compliments to share! The destinations did not disappoint! Spectacular gorges and refreshing water holes, bejeweled night skies, scampering wallabies, wandering dingoes, and impressive bustards flapping by are a few of my forever memories! The itinerary is tops! Gools and Thommo didn’t disappoint either! They are the hardest working guides I have traveled with thus far! Although this is a participatory travel experience where we helped to unload swags from the vehicle, set up camp chairs, and wash up after meals, G and T provide an unmatched level of service! Examples: Delicious, fresh, and skillfully prepared meals, knowledgeable about the history, people, plants and animals of the area, caring and helpful if trails had tricky sections to clamber over. I appreciated their unwavering professionalism from Day 1 to Day 12. I haven’t even mentioned their flexibility and positivity when the bulk of our itinerary had to be reconfigured due to closed river crossings due to uncharacteristic rain in late June. Whether you seek a bit of adventure in the outback/bush or want to take in breathtaking scenery, you will undoubtedly appreciate the positive energy that G and T radiate, making the trip enjoyable and unforgettable. If you have read this far, let me also compliment the level of detail, responsive and helpful communication that owner Simone delivers consistently. This is very important to me to establish trust with the tour operator. Before I travel halfway around the world (literally), I want to feel confident that the tour described on the website is what is provided. When situations arise that are beyond the tour operator’s control, it’s reassuring and refreshing when they work hard to find a solution. Thank you Adventure wild Kimberley, Gools, Thommo!

Our 12 day camping trip was the ultimate Kimberley experience. Beautiful tents were set up ready for us each night, and we camped in interesting and beautiful places all immersed in gorgeous Kimberley scenes. No single supplement- each had their own tent.

Our guides (we had Tommo and Gools) are a couple with extraordinary experience and knowledge of Kimberley culture, geography, flora and fauna - I think they were able to answer every question! They took us to some off-the-beaten track experiences such as gorges and walks.

The food each day was delicious - continental breakfasts in camp (a couple of times we'd get a breakfast pack to eat on the way of there was an early start). Lunches were delicious and served from the camp trailer, often eaten under a shady tree. Dinners in camp were delicious home cooked creations by Gools - a different nationality food each night.

They took us through each activity with amazing knowledge and looked after us from the most beginner fitness level to the fit seasoned traveller. Every existing was a marvel. We felt sorry watching other tours who were just dropped off to explore by themselves, with no one to ensure they went the right way and got the most out of it.

Our adventures included walking to and swimming in amazing gorges, waterfalls, hot springs, river pools. Experiences such as boat trips into gorges or rivers (Ord River, Lake Argyle etc) and walking along river banks etc.

They were so helpful arranging to fly someone home for a family emergency. I could go on and on - can't recommend these guys highly enough. Why pay $10,000 or more for a 'luxury' trip that only gives you a tent with ensuite!

10 stars for these guys!

Loved our 12 day tour of the Kimberley with Gools & Thomson, the best tour guides I’ve met. Nothing was too much trouble and their knowledge, experience, sense of humour meant the whole group had a wonderful time. The food was incredible and each camp site was unique in its own way. Very well run and loads of laughs along the way. All the optional tours were fantastic too.

We've just finished our 12 days Kimberley camping trip. Two amazing guides Dean and Kylie have done excellent work. Every tiny things that they gave us made me felt parents looking after their children. They enjoyed their work and made lots of surprises to us.
We've got VIP services.
