The Ian Potter Centre is easy to get to (Federation Square) and lovely to wander around - not too big but big enough - worth the visit for special exhibitions and the enjoy the iconic Australian paintings by our famous painters. The Centre is less...More

A little hard to find and work out how to get around but I took my three kids aged 12, 10 and 7. They enjoyed it for a while but hated the abstract stuff!

I visited this exhibit when in Melbourne last - I found it very confronting and educational. I'd strongly recommend a visit

Recently attended exhibition of Early Australia. There were many old documents, maps, books and some paintings from the time. The old hand drawn maps, and paintings of birds were amazing. I thought paintings representing this era was light on and was disappointed.

If you visit Melbourne and do not visit the NGV you've made a huge mistake. I haven't visited a better contemporary Gallery in Australia. Watch for their special exhibitions - they're never wide of the mark.

Interactive activities for kids and adults, movie history and see things you will never see any where else. Nice outing with children.

While in Melbourne we took time out to view the MOMA Exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria and it was very busy. The pictures on display are a snapshot of what you would see in NY. It was almost impossible to stand back and...More

Recently saw the 'Colony' exhibition, which was quite good, with some interesting objects. Other displays were also worth visiting, though an hour was probably enough.

The exhibition "Colony" that runs from March to July 2018 at the NGV Australia is huge. If you wanted to look at all the art and objects in detail and read all the information panels, you could spend there all day. The exhibition is structured...More

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air

No, both the galleries in Melbourne have free access if you want to come in and wander around their standard displays. If there are special exhibitions running, there is generally a charge for those. You can still enter... More
