Very good experience at St. Patrick's Cathedral- great Gothic architecture inside and out- highly recommended.

A quiet spot for peaceful reflection. No charge unless you want to take photos ($5 AU). Interesting to read the inscriptions and imagine the lives of those memorialized.

Lovely inside guides can help explain things to you. They charge a $5 to take photos inside. I really liked walking around inside.

Very beautiful, nearly reaching the level of Rome's churches if you take the time to explore the chapels. I went around 2pm and the sunlight was streaming in beautifully. You can go in.

Main Catholic Cathedral in Melbourne. Visit for spiritual healing and view the interesting architecture.

Pretty Cathedral is on a traditional east-west axis. The plan is the style of a Latin Cross with a nave and side aisles. Inside looks quite traditional. We visited close to sunset and the sun really highlighted the spires on the outside, looked really nice.

Well conserved and beautiful architecture. We went for the Sunday mass. Nice garden and picture spot. Nice piece of landmark of Melbourne.

A beautifulbuilding from inside or outside, such a dominance of the landscape. Writing this from the Park Hyatt opposite and it looks such an imposing wonderful structure with such amazing spires. Can only imagine what the area was like before all the nearby modern buildings

Making the visit worthwhile for me (despite the Cathedral's "somewhat out-of-the-way" location from the CBD) was seeing the mini-chapel for St. Mary MacKillop (among a number of mini-chapels which are kind of "small rooms" in like a semicircular-shaped area pretty much all the way at...More

Michelle K. I did not hear any bells midweek during my visit, but other reviewers indicate they are rung to call parishioners to Mass, and for special occasions (weddings). P.S. do not miss Cook's Cottage... More

Lee, As a visitor and not a Melbourne-ite I think you would be best to use Public Transport or leave vehicle at Hotel.
