Our group of 4 friends had a wonderful experience with Raw Travel. The accommodation exceeded expectations, breakfasts were amazing, lunch was filling and the flexibility in our itinerary ensured our level of activity matched the weather conditions and our weary legs. Having a local guide ensured we found some great eateries and local attractions. Thanks Raw

Approached RAW Travel to arrange and book a trek of the Camino Santiago through Spain for my retirement to depart in April 2020. As a result of the COVID19 pandemic the Trek was unfortunately cancelled. Subsequently RAW Travel has been less than understanding and have charged excessive cancellation fees, also being very reluctant to provide any refund. I would not recommend using this company to anyone.

We did look into this in great detail with you Frank and believe we have been fair given the significant time and costs involved in your very specific and time-consuming requests for a tailor-made 48-day itinerary. We appreciate this is a situation beyond both yours and our control but we believed you would be happy with our response, given you were at the time this was discussed with both owners, and you willingly accepted resolutions we discussed with you. We detailed everything for you as requested and charges related solely to the time spent booking your extensive 48 day tailor made trip and were not excessive by any standard that might be applied. We do not intend to engage further with your repeated social posts (up to 8 times per day - what most people would regard as 'trolling' - so not constructive engagement but just trying to damage our business) or to go into this in more detail with you retrospectively after we have in fact provided the resolution you requested and accepted.

The quiet times imposed by the virus have allowed me time to reflect with gratitude on the Camino de Santiago walk my wife and I were able to do last Fall. We walked the entire Camino Frances, from St. John Pied-de-Port to Santiago as a couple. Our trip was wonderfully choreographed by Sue Chater at RAW Travel. My wife and I are both 63 years old, and though we are good hikers, I did not want to walk the almost 500 mile distance in 33 days as is the standard. We were doing it for religious reasons and wanted to make frequent stops along each day's walk. There was so much to see and the people along the way, both the locals and our fellow pilgrims, could not have been nicer. So we asked Sue to stretch the trip out for us from 33 to 49 days and to limit our daily walks to 17 miles. We also asked if she could book us in accommodations other than albergues which often don’t take reservations in any event. We did not want to get up two hours before dawn and race to the next accommodation. We also did not want over-the-top fancy places. Our ideal was a nice small hotel in the cities or a Casa Rural in the smaller towns. Sue did a brilliant job. Every day we looked forward to seeing the place we would spend the night, or, if it was a shorter day, the afternoon as well. We were never disappointed. And sometimes she booked us at truly spectacular places, like the Paradors in San Domingo del la Calzada and in Santiago itself. In every place we were greeted by friendly, helpful proprietors. Every place was clean and well looked after, with generally excellent breakfasts provided. RAW Travel is well known on the Camino, and the owners of the places where we stayed are grateful for the bookings they receive and treated us accordingly. Sue also arranged to have our luggage moved so we had only to carry our water, first aid, rain gear, and our ever-helpful Brierley guidebook. The great advantage of using RAW Travel is that your itinerary is set, and your bookings are ready for you whenever you arrive. So many people along the Camino were calling ahead daily for reservations. Hotels and albergues fill up (and for those our age, communal bathrooms and big common rooms of snorers [like me!] were far from ideal). We were free from planning anxieties and free to truly enjoy our walk. In this time of virus, we are all looking forward to our next adventure. I, for one, do not believe in a “new normal” and optimistically expect the old normal to return. When it does, I hope you will take advantage of Sue Chater and RAW Travel. They arrange walks all over the world, and we can’t wait for our next one.

My husband and I used RAW Travel to organise our self guided walks of the 800 km Camino Frances in 2017 and Wainwright’s Coast to Coast across northern England in 2019. We had the time of our lives. We were happy with the standard of accommodation and the bag transfer services were excellent. The documentation provided was easy to follow and it was good to know that there was someone to contact if we had an emergency. We also did the 3 day Great Ocean Road guided walk with them in 2017 as training for the Camino and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We found the staff very pleasant to deal with and there was no problem adjusting the itinerary to give us time to get into the history and culture, explore the villages, take in the scenery and, in Spain, have a long, late lunch after finishing our walk.

We decided 8 years ago that we would one day walk the Camino de Santiago.. for no particular reason but “because we can” and fast forward to 2018 and decided to book. I researched and found RAW Travel, website was really helpful, informative and professional - so I reached out to them. We dealt with Stuart who was very knowledged in the Camino and before you knew it - we had booked an abridged version of one of their offerings. We walked the Sarria to Santiago path over 6 days. Staying in some nice hotels and some not as nice. The best hotel was Pazo Santa Maria in Arzua! Our least favourite was Tobo do Lobo in Melide. For anyone thinking of walking the Camino - don’t think - just do it!
