The best tour we have done in Coober Pedy.
The tour guide is very knowledgeable. She knows the place very well and explained how’s the opal formed and more.

Very interesting and unique displays not encountered anywhere else in Coober Pedy. Learnt a lot here, even though it was one of the last spots visited during our stay.

This is a must when in Coober Pedy. We started with a short movie on the discovery of Opal in the area, a bit about how opals are formed and mined, followed with a live display of polishing and cutting opals. We walked down tunnels to an old dugout house, then a modern one, a mine shaft, examples of Opal in the walls, and a display of explosives. The shop at the end had some beautiful pieces of jewellery for sale. I really enjoyed this experience.

Excellent clean modern exhibition. Has lots of interesting artifacts and history on the area. Make sure you do a tour of the underground houses and mines. They show you a real old house and a real big modern house and how comfortable they are and then head into thier mine there. Spend about 1hr there tops. Very nice opal store there as well

We went to the museum this morning. We had Rudy as our guide and Zoe in the shop. This man has been an opal miner and his knowledge is second to none. The museum is amazing. The layout and content is incredible. We were truly surprised to find such a high level museum in the middle of nowhere. Please make sure you visit when in Coober Pedy. The information and history is well compiled and interesting.

The museum in the town with highest footfall, The Ghan has affiliation here and they bring their passengers first here. Also, this place probably boasts biggest collection of opal in display for sale. Finally, the lookout point above the area is great to catch a long way view of the Coober Pedy sign (the hollywood style)
