About
Josephine's Gallery is a 'MUST SEE' whilst in Coober Pedy. Wander through the impressive ABORIGINAL ART GALLERY, play a DIDGERIDOO, choose a beautiful OPAL from our extensive range or KISS A KANGAROO. Our passion is raising orphaned kangaroos and we offer you the opportunity to see these amazing creatures up close and maybe even hold a baby. Feeding times daily at 12 noon and 5:30pm. Don't be late!

Expensive for the little time we were there. Very busy and we battled rude tourists who pushed in front of everyone for everything. We saw the joey's out the back in a fenced area, before being able to have a quick cuddle with a baby roo, which was the highlight...once you waited for the crowd to subside.

You will have to ring to make an appointment to do the Kangaroo feeding & to hold a Joey (if they have any) but the gallery is normally open. If not there is a phone number to ring.
The art work is wonderful & to buy.

The gallery is nice, not a big one but pretty good one actually. However, you must visit the orphanage at the back. They run interactive session in particular times, usually around 12 and 5, come back then to feed the kangaroos, cuddle them - it's a really good experience and the warmth of the atmosphere is so good as you feel that it's run by a caring family and not a profit making organisation

We called ahead thinking we have to make reservations ( and because it was Easter weekend ). Our group of 4 got in the next day without any problem. The owner is very entertaining and has a few good stories. The animals appear to be well treated, and are not afraid to approach visitors so it is a close-up experience.
During our visit, there was a local Aboriginal artist ( apparently quite famous ) exhibiting and working in the Gallery, which made for a nice extra

Slid open the unlocked door with a Please Open sign on it and started looking at the art. After 5 mins a man came and aggressively confronted us “what are you f***ing doing in here, we’re closed”. Then continued to be rude even when we pointed out to him the Please Open sign and nothing to suggest they were closed (mid morning on a Thursday). Soured our view of the town. Suggest passing this place by.

Local art, baby kangaroos and the most lovely owners. This place deserves a visit, if only to chat to the owners and hear all they do for the injured wildlife around here. Great work.

Judy our guide was a wealth of information and talked non stop about the life of the kangaroo. Particularly interesting was the female reproductive system. This one you will have to come and hear about yourself or look it up. We fed a fully grown kangaroo and the highlight of course was nursing a joey who was 4 months old.

There is an art gallery and a jewellry store to look at.

Entry us by donation.
