We took the Freedom Fast Cat from Roslyn Bay marina to Great Keppel Island for a day trip mid-week after Easter. Most of the shops and eateries on the island were closed but it didn’t matter as the restaurant, bar and gift shop near where the ferry drops you off were all open. The island has very fine, white sand, the water is crystal clear and was just the right temperature for a swim We walked about 5 minutes to the left of the Ferry and found Putney Beach where we set up for the day. There was plenty of shade from the palm trees which grow down nearly to the water’s edge. Other beaches on the island have wide expanses of sand but we were happy with Putney Beach with its easy access to the commercial area. We went for a walk across the island to the old resort which we were told Gina Rinehart is in the process of purchasing. It was a shame to see it abandoned, but you can’t take away from the multiple beautiful beaches on the island. We ordered fish and chips for lunch accompanied by a cocktail from the bar which was very good. If I was to do it again, I would probably try and get an earlier ferry and take a later ferry home. Nevertheless, it was a very enjoyable day all round and highly recommended if you like the sun, sea and clean beaches with white sand.

Clean sand, gentle waves and shallow depths make this a great beach to take the kids. The island's only bar and bistro is at the point, and canoe and paddle board rentals are available too.

Australia is littered with beautiful beaches and this is one of them.
To get here, you will have to cross from the mainland to Great Keppel Island.

Putney Beach is just idyllic...
Unlike the butchered Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, no "bright spark" has taken out all the trees and concreted edges around it. It has been left natural, with gum trees growing right on the sand - just gorgeous! So many different types of shells washed up it was a beach-combing heaven! Watched the sunset over the water and felt like the luckiest people alive...
This is truly a piece of paradise. See it before over-development ruins it!

Have a swim or just lay in the sun. Superb. Beautiful white sand and crystal clear water. Protected from the wind.

Nice beach that was deserted when we visited in Winter School Holidays. It was lovely, yachts out in the distance and no one else on the beach to be seen. Great relaxing beach to have a stroll. If you have entered the beach via the Leeke's Beach Circuit Walk its a fantastic spot to stop and rest weary legs before heading back to the main precinct.

Putney Beach on Great Keppel is one of the best beaches in the world.
At high tide it is a dream.
Just above it is a bar/bistro which gives you at night a great backdrop of sunset drinks.
A definite must for beach lovers!

White sands, turquoise water, soft waves and not many people! What more could you ask for! Relaxing and enjoyable- there is a small clump of trees to shelter under in the mid-day sun

Leaving the merky waters of Yeppoon you wouldn't expect to reach such a beautiful island in less than 30min on the ferry.
The beaches are prestine and the water is crystal clear. The snorkelling is great and with beaches facing all directions it wasn't hard to find a perfect spot for the day.
Lunch at the local bar is nice with a cold beer.

Well worth the trip. Even for just a day getaway.
