Have been there a few times in the past. Nice drive from Brisbane. You can stop along the way in small towns and can take a picnic. Lovely way to spend a weekend day.

Wivenhoe dam is a great place for a Sunday drive and a BBQ at one of the many BBQ facilities. A great and safe place to swim with no powered water craft allowed.

Nice place to visit for a day where you can have a BBQ and or swim, paddle or sail your boat (no fuel moters allowed) or you can camp for a while at a nominal fee.

Majestic Wivenhoe dam supplies most of Brisbane with water. Located in a beautiful spot, the dam is also great for a weekend away. Just take the Brisbane highway, through beautiful landscapes.

Wivenhoe dam was simply breathtaking! You can drive to many different spots around the dam to take in the views and the shear size of it. The dam was extremely clean and definitely worth the drive. Great place to take the kids and have a...More

I got harassed by a police woman for taking a picture on the dam. Very pretty lake with a nice reststop.

I saw boats out in certain parts of the Dam, but it is probably best to check with SEQ Water.
