I have visited museums all over the world from all eras. I have never visited one so well curated or put together. It is a wonderful exploration of colonial Sydney/NSW. A fascinating museum experience that can be enjoyed by all ages and all types. Incredible...More

I would recommend the audio tour to anyone thinking about visiting this museum. It was very insightful, and allowed for a more in depth view at the history of the Barracks. I would have liked to have seen some chairs perhaps for people to sit...More

Very nice museum with an informative audio track, a must see if you are in Sydney. Spent about 1.5 hours here, great way to learn about the colonization of Australia.

This is a must for school groups. You see how the early settlers lived. When this place was a prison, it was very hard to survive. Each room has different eras that you can explore. If you are a history buff, this place is for...More

Not on the scale of museums in the States like Williamsburg, Vicksburg etc. but a wonderful illustration of what life was like in the early settlement days of Sydney. So accessible, just a walk from the CBD via Hyde Park or Macquarie Street. The contrast...More

I thought this would be an in and out sort of museum. But it really has a lot to say. Only the buildings themselves are original, but there is plenty to learn about the early days of the City with lots of storyboards, etc. I...More

This museum was unique for its story. It has free audio guide which I took and learned more of the history. I saw that small kids were given a different pamphlet to play around with the display. I spent around 1 hour and gained insights...More

If you'd like to learn about the convict settlement of this continent, then this is the place to go. A $12 AUD admission gets you a guided audio tour, but there are plenty (plenty!) of placards on each floor to tell you about the exhibit....More

If you have an hour or two to spend in Sydney, this is a fascinating museum. It shows the harshness of corrections during the early 1800s as convicts from throughout the Commonwealth were sent to Sydney. The Hyde Park Barracks Museum is a brick building...More

Really interesting museum. Very evocative especially the rooms still strung with hammocks for the convict labourers. Lots to see and read. Good use of range of different media. Liked the personal stories and histories which also help to bring the site 'alive'.We were there about...More

Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with
energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise
buildings and after-work drink places, high-end
shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners
frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a
dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit
the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle,
reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens
