Gallery is great, cafe no so great
Feb 2021
This was our second attempt at brunch at the Gallery's cafe. Sadly, it was not very good, again.
While the presentation may look good, the actual food is not. Is it too much to expect when the menu says 'Herb omelette with asparagus' that you'll actually get more than one, yes one, finger of asparagus? And, that it all won't be swimming in some horrible fatty oil with red paprika or something sprinkled all over it, everywhere! (what the heck was it, would we be allergic to it??) Or, that the salad will be a garnish instead of half the plate in lieu of the missing asparagus. It may look good, but was actually pretty disgusting, as was the stewed vegetables accompanying the scrambled eggs.
The coffee is pretty good, but they really are doing themselves a disservice by not keeping things simple, fresh and, dare we say, basic. We wouldn't recommend brunch here (or eating here in general), unless they change the way they prepare and serve their offerings.

Great Lunch
Nov 2020
David made both of us delicious food that was fastidiously presented. The place was noisy because of all the local ladies who were having lunch and talking to each other.

Just don't waste your money or time

Visited the cafe last Saturday, the barista was well mannered and nice but the food was definitely not worth the money... Or any money. We'll definitely NOT go back again!

Nice cafe
Aug 2019
Food presented well and tasted good too. Service was nice. Sweets in the glass cabinet looked tempting and tried the mocha cheese cake, nothing special, next time will try their Japanese cheesecake. Overall, we are happy.

Beautiful art, lovely food
Jun 2019 • Couples
We had a lovely lunch here recently on a day trip to Canberra from Sydney. The art was as always interesting and exciting (pity about the women near us who reeked of perfume, we couldn't spend as long as we liked as we couldn't breathe) We hadn't booked for lunch and got the last 2 seats inside. We ordered sparkling water and a wine along with our food. The water came in two bottles, we used the water glasses on the table and about 10 minutes later we got lovely fancy glasses for our water, which was almost gone! Hubby had a very nice green pea risotto, I had twice cooked duck with lovely veg, and beautifully presented along with a glass of local Pinot Noir. $69.50 was money well spent.

Brilliant gallery but sad about the cafe....
Mar 2019 • Couples
We had lunch recently at the cafe. Perhaps we are not 'foodies' but the food was underwhelming and over priced!! Would recommend this cafe for afternoon or morning tea as the cake offerings and the coffee was great..

Great Gallery, Don't Bother with the Cafe
Oct 2018 • Friends
Like many of the other reviewers, I think that Beaver is the best commercial gallery in Canberra. The quality of the exhibitions is generally very good and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable.

The same cannot be said for the café. We booked for a group of four and when we arrived (on time), there were no spare tables and nobody looked like leaving. Rather than being welcomed, we were ignored for five minutes with not a word or any eye contact from the staff. When we were acknowledged, we were asked if we would like to sit outside. It was 14 degrees with 25 kph winds - no thank you!! Clearly, our booking meant nothing, despite their website recommending that you book. Our previous visit had been marked by slow and off-hand service. While the food is usually reasonably good, we won't be looking to eat there any time soon.

Cafe
Aug 2018 • Friends
Do not go to this cafe for lunch if you have less than an hour and a half for lunch. We arrived on time for our 12.30 booking, our order was taken at 12.45 and our lunch was not served until just after 1.30. We then had to rush our meal, then wait in a queue to pay. If this is usual, then they need to let you know when they take your order that it will take such a long time to get your meal.
The meal looked very pretty and tasted OK.
I won't be going back, there are plenty of other really good options in the area.

High end Art and Craft
Jun 2018 • Friends
There is always an excellent exhibition on at Beaver Galleries. This gallery is established and reputable where you can splash out and purchase a museum quality masterpiece from a current show or there extensive stock room or just get a fab production piece from their shop which stocks designer but affordable jewellery, ceramics, glass and other items like hand made scarves etc. There is a stock room as mentioned, as well as a stock display room where fine art and craft are displayed to give a sense of how it could look at your place. There is also a print display room and racks, a major exhibition space showing changing solo and group exhibitions. Designer/ craft in one of the two main spaces and Fine art in the other. The space is crisp and the art always looks great. The staff are knowledgeable and welcoming so even if you are a novice they can make your experience memorable. Added bonus is the fab fusion cafe check Beaver Galleries website for info about it - I can recommend the lemon meringue pie and the coffee is great. Parking is free. Great place to catch up with friends, check out some art buy the wedding present. Constantly excellent. You can pop in for 10 min or stay for an hour or two.
