A little gem set in the heart of CapeTown, Near the University, who are I believe, the custodians of this Museum. The Museum is set in what was the house belonging to Irma Stern, and notable artist of some fame. Although an Art College graduate, I had I did not know her work.. She had studied in Germany at one... More

The museum is situated in Irma Stern's house. The gardens are beautiful and the collection of Stern's paintings is remarkable. A must if you visit Cape Town.

I loved the art work and enjoyed meeting the artist Tyrone Appollis who was setting up his exhibit of excellent paintings.

This museum of Irma Stern's work and of the many objects she collected to inspire her art is really a hidden gem. Situated in the house of the artist, it feels like a home that was lived in by a flamboyant, intelligent and creative force of nature (and her mother). The portraits give a real sense of the people in... More

This is indeed a hidden gem. Not that easy to find. When I stepped over the threshold into the house I was struck by the fragrant scent of a massive and beautiful bowl of fresh flowers. This set the tone. The house reflects the character of this extraordinary artist. Go while it remains 'hidden' - I had the place more... More

The Irma Stern Museum is wonderful treasure trove, located in the house in which she lived and worked. The publications available for purchase provide ample information on the museum and its contents, and staff were easily engaged and very informative. Our primary motivation for the visit was to view an exhibition of a selection of the Sanlam Portrait Award paintings,... More

Great ambiance with an interesting collection of IS's paintings and collections. The visitor certainly gets a good idea of how IS lived and painted. The day I went a lot of her paintings were not available as they were being exhibited elsewhere, so only 3 stars. If you don't have a car it could be tricky to get to. There... More

What a wonderful experience to visit the house where Irma Stern lived and worked & which is now a museum with her furniture, collections of objet d'art & a big selection of her paintings. You really get a 'feel' of the artist looking at her studio with her paints & easel left in situ and at the artistic way she... More

this place is a real gem, it's worth a visit. The museum is located in what used to be the artist's house. It is very well kept and well organized. Has been a real surprise to see all those paintings and the decorations still in the house. It's an excellent place to visit

This, her former home, is full of her paintings which today are worth a considerable amount. Others are all over the world. She is delightful in her use of colour and they are in the main, a joy to see
