A charming castle with superb frescoes in a special location. Inside the castle is located
a restaurant with a Michelin star, where we ate a very good meal at absolutely affordable prices. The castle and the restaurant worth a visit.

I noticed the Torrequiara castle, which I had seen earlier on the Internet, again in the avenue by noon. Well, how not to implement an impulsive decision to watch it, especially with a daughter whose name is also Chiara? Unfortunately, it is better to implement this idea in the morning in order to have enough time. In the morning, several number 12 buses leave for Langhirano. The bus departs from the bus station, which is located at a level below the railway station. The bus goes to Torrequiara for an hour, and almost half an hour along Parma itself... Unfortunately, we only had enough time to climb up to the castle and return to the bus that returned from the final stop. We could not see the frescoes on the theme of forbidden love by Bianca Pellegrini and condottiere Pierre Marie Rossi. If you go in the morning, or even more so in a rented car, you will have this opportunity.

A beautiful restored castle, with really very extensive displays of frescoes and murals. Well worth a visit along with the other similar quality castles in this region

...and then, if you want to see it in the real world, visit the Castello di Torrechiara.
Let your fantasy think of “the enemies” seen at a distance from the tower, think of life around the castle, the abbey down in the valley...

There is a very steep hill to climb to get to the castle, but there are a few car parking spaces at the top if you are lucky enough to get one.
Having arrived on the 15 August public holiday, it was nice to get free entry.
We enjoyed wandering around the very well maintained castle.
Would have loved a guided tour but unfortunately they dont do English ones. There was some information to read in English which helped us though.

This castle was built as a love nest and combines the Renaissance with the Medieval period. The frescos are all secular, romantic, but never lewd or risque. It only takes the best part of an hour to visit the public rooms, and the views are truly gorgeous. In fact, the whole area around the Parma River and Langhirano is one of the loveliest areas of Italy.

We did not origianlly have this on our list of things to do, but close enough to where we were staying to add to the list. Easy to find just north of Langhirano. We had a bright sunny day for a visit. The rooms inside were well preserved, and gave a great presentation of life from yester-year. Some beautiful murals for viewing. A lot of walking, and l alot of cobblestone and stone pathways to navigate.

It's a nice idea for a daily trip around Parma. We loved the castle, views over the beautiful country are amazing. However what we missed is an outside bar, because it was a very nice weather and we couldn't get a drink. There is one taverna, but there was a very rude waiter who wouldn't serve us drinks without food - although all the tables outside were empty. He has headed us to an inside bar, which was kind of stupid, because the weather was great.

It’s a wonderful castle, lots of history and wonderful views. But it’s all cobblestone and steps. Anybody with a mobility’s issue should avoid this place.
