About
The Pertosa-Auletta Caves, 40 minutes far from Salerno, is the only speleological site in Italy where you can navigate an underground river, going into the mountain's heart. You enjoy Nature in silence surprising you with the shapes and colors of stalactites and stalagmites. Two touristic and one speleological tour let you explore the caves, accompanied by expert guides. The visits to Pertosa-Auletta Caves are in complete safety, with expert guides, for groups of maximum 30 people. It is recommended a comfortable clothing and closed shoes: the inside temperature is about 16°, all over the year. Reservation is required for guided tour to MIdA Museums and to the Caves. See visit timetable on website.

Must-do for your Cilento holidays

Beautiful views and spectacular scenarios you will discover in this cave. The "unknow"river allowed us to have a boat trip into the cave. It was a nice experience for adults and children. Unfortunatly, it is not possible to have a tour in English language.

Impressive cave system, very well equipped and amazing guide Luciano. Definitely worth the trip if you are in Cilento. Remember to bring a sweater! Temperature in the cave is ~15C!

We had a great time at the grotto. Nature is amazing! The tours are in Italian only. Our guide Pasquale was very helpful translating into German regularly... special thanks to him again

Fascinating place

We are just up here on our way back from visiting the Pompeii ruins. The caves are amazing and the formations are beautiful. It's underground, so the coolness of the caves made a nice escape from the heat.

Brilliant caves

Guide did not speak any English (the only negative aspect) but apart from that this was a great cave visit. Lots of cool flow stone features. Enjoyed it.

Beautiful and stunning
Apr 2017 • Family
I visited with my girlfriend and her family in April 2017, and it was a pleasant surprise.

The actual caves are somewhat difficult to reach via the roads; at the time there were roadworks with little signposting, which would prove difficult to navigate if you don't speak Italian.

Our tour lasted 90 minutes and was a fascinating exploration of the caves, with a lovely boat trip thrown in halfway through. Be wary that they don't do tours in English - I'm learning Italian so it was just about okay!

Would recommend!

Roads are closed and no sign to go around

My husband and I spent 1.5 hours driving around and trying to find a way to visit. We aimed at 15:00 but missed it and tried to make 17:00 until we gave up.

Beautiful Caves
Apr 2017 • Couples
It's a nice place to go on a rainy day or to cool off on a hot summer day. The cave is quite long and well lit with a new LED system. A lot of different chambers, all very beautiful to see and a nice waterfall. We were lucky to have a guide that took the time to translate the information in english and seemed happy to do so.

Breath-taking scene!
Oct 2016 • Couples
This place was stunning. I was here 10 years ago and the atmosphere was completely different. The old lighting system was terrible (it has damaged the stones because the musk) but the new LED lighting system is amazing and it gives a breath-taking scene. The staff at the cave were very friendly. This place was stunning!

Amazing site. Best if you speak Italian!
Oct 2016 • Family
Caves are truly amazing. Huge. Boat trip is stunning. However, I would take the cheapest and quickest tour unless you they have an English version if you don't speak Italian. 100 minutes was VERY long when you don't. Check on the website. We made the mistake of just turning up and assuming they would have. And after a while one stalagmite looks pretty much like another!
