The National Museum of the Republic of Buryatia The National museum of the Republic of Buryatia is the pride and legacy of the Republic and also the symbol of the Buriyat culture. It combined four museums of the Republic: the History museum named after M.Khangalov, the Art museum named after Ts.Sampilov, the Natural science museum and the Novoselenginsk museum of the Decembrists. The History museum of the Republic of Buryatia named after M.Khangalov All history of Buryatia is represented by the unique fund collections of more than 100 thousand items of the museum. These items have the world significance, among them are: "The Atlas of Tibetan medicine", the Buddhist culture items, sculptures, made from precious metals and stones items of the arts and crafts, rare books in Tibetan and old Mongolian languages and other things which can be considered as the pride of the Republic. The guests of the museum during a day can touch to different milestones of Buryatia's history and culture from the Huns period till the present days. The Art museum named after Ts. Sampilov The art museum named after Ts.Sampilov is one of the top museums in Eastern Siberia. There you can see the unique works of the artists and other masters of Buryatia: jewelry, items of arts and crafts, plastic arts, repoussé works, ceramics, horse-hair tapestries, paintings, graphics, sculptures etc. At the museum exhibitions are also represented the works of the great Russian artists: I.Shihkin, K.Aiwazovsky, A.Kuindzhi, V.Borovikovsky etc. The Natural science museum of the Republic of Buryatia Nowadays this museum is the only one regional museum of natural sciences on the territory of Siberia and Far East. The modern collection of the museum includes paleontological, zoological, geological and botanical collections and reflects all variety of Buryatia's nature. As is well known Buryatia spread out from the shores of ancient Lake Baikal till wide steppes of Mongolia. It is the territory of illimitable wealth and fairytale beauty's nature. The museum's exhibits can tell us about high mountain ranges and wide valleys, taiga forests and larch groves, steppes and lakes of the region. The information about Lake Baikal - the deepest freshwater lake in the world with the maximum depth 1637 meters, takes the main place of the museum exposition. The form of the lake depression and the relief of the lake floor are clearly demonstrated at the lake's model. About 5000 animals and plants inhibit Lake Baikal and the most of it are the lake's endemics. Lake Baikal is admitted by UNESCO as the object of the World nature heritage. Rest days: Monday, Tuesday The Novoselenginsk museum of the Decembrists The Novoselenginsk museum of the Decembrists became the first museum dedicated to the Decembrists of Transbaikalia. It was opened in December 24 of 1975 to the 150th-anniversary of the Decembrists' uprising which has happened at the Senatskaya square. The museum is located inside of the house of merchant belonging to the top guild and also honorary citizen of Selenginsk D.Startsev, he was the friend of the Decembrists K.Torson and the Bestuzhev brothers. The building is built in the similar with nobility farmstead style of the 40-s of 19th century. The expositions are dedicated to the history of penal servitude and exile to Transbaikalia. The basic part of the exhibitions can tell to the visitors about life and activity of the Bestuzhev brothers at the Dauria territory of Selenginsk. The aims of the museum are the preservation of historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Buryatia and also the study of the Decembrist's contribution to the development of economy and culture of Transbaikalia. From the day of the museum's opening the guests of the village, district and whole Republic are the museum's guests. For the local people and people who came from the other places this museum is not just demonstrative example of past life of the region but also in a way the guide at the world of the present-day culture and at the same time the demonstration of attitude to own past. Located in memorial house the museum of this kind which has priceless quantity of exhibits is the unique depository of the human memory and culture and that's why it can give the opportunity to feel the continuity of generations.
