This is the right place (and surrounding streets) for a nice stroll, no cars allowed, lots of shops, restaurants and coffee places. Not terribly exciting, but oh, so Austrian! Some might find it boring, but not in my case!
The Hauptplatz is a car free zone and a great place to enjoy a meal, coffee or Eis. Much less crowded than other tourist towns in the area, a great place to relax and wind down after driving the fabulous Alpine Road.
I love Lienz - from my point of view it is the most beautiful city in Austria :-)

Lienz is a very beautiful small city and the place in the middle with the old houses is beautiful more. Especially in Summer you can sit in one of the cafe's and enjoy homemade cakes, austrian dishes and drink good Austrian coffees. Nice place to...More
