Not wanting to overdo the chateau viewing we opted to drive to Montrichard on the Cher river to see the medieval village and ruined castle. The guide suggested arriving from the south to gain benefit of the best views, so although from the direction of...More

Decided to come to Montrichard becasue the photo of the place in our guide book looked nice and it wasn't too far from where we were staying. Lookign from the other side of the River Cher, the Donjon did indeed look magnificant. However, on close...More

I enjoy touring old castles, and this one looked interesting when we saw it as we drove through Montrichard on our way to Chateau de Chenonceau. Don’t bother stopping. Poorly maintained, and the parts that would be more interesting to see and climb have been...More

Complete waste of time and money. You may as well view the remains from the river as there isn't much to see after you've paid your €5 entry fee. A musty excuse for a museum awaits on the way out. Shame they don't use the...More

When you get to the top there are some interesting rooms to look in, but sadly the main reason to go up was the castle. Most of it is closed off and you can only look up. The view is good but not really worth...More

Not advertised too well in the village but well worth a visit to any with a historical or geological lean. The collections were well shown and the building itself very interesting.

Visited as part of a medieval show with some funny acting ;) kids really enjoyed the stories and the visit. Access is a bit hard if you don't have proper shoes!

The view from the esplanade over the river and the town are worth the climb but it is disappointing that the Donjon itself cannot be entered. The museums Are reasonably interesting but there are many steps down and up to visit them

Its not the Louvre, but you are not in Paris. A nicely presented local history museum. Plus its a good place to get a birds eye view of the river valley.
