Touring this castle is truly like walking into the past. While there are some obvious 'updates' (eg: electricity) but overall the castle is very authentic--medieval weapons, cookware, beautiful artwork and sculptures that you can touch and admire up close. The tour guide (who spoke English and Italian) gives really in depth information but moves at a good pace. There is a lot of history and some fun intrigue too. Bring cash-and be ready to walk.

A beautiful castle at a small, car free village with isolated houses in the italian region of Latzio, Fumone, a few km away of Frosinone, is sitted on a hill with breakthrough views. At the free entrance village visit the Archeological Museum, the beautiful church of Santa Maria Annunziata, buy local products from the tiny touristic shops while you can find two or three hotels and a few small restaurants with traditional kitchen. A walk through the medieval history of Italy is always worthwhile to spend a few hours there.

If you go to Fumone castle then bring cash! The little souvenir shops, bar and some retaurants below the castle, and the castle itself do not take credit cards. The cost for a guided tour of the castle is €10 with no reduced priced for teens. You only get to tour a fraction of the castle because the owners reside in part of it and it's off limits to visitors. If there are more than 10 people in the group then it's a squash into some of the rooms and you get to see very little unless you stay behind or sneak out while the guide is talking. The guide herself kept excusing herself to attend to another, separate group and this was annoying. You get to see about 5 small rooms and a kitchen. All poorly furnished or with little artifact. There is a mummified child kept in a chest and you need to pay a fee If you want to photograph him. Most the stories told be the guide had some dark or mysterious tale attached to it to make the castle more interesting or appealing. I doubt that it's haunted. The garden is lovely because of the view over the valley . It's a half maze of bushes with a few conifers. No flowers, monuments or anything else that to make it pretty. The tour is supposed to last 40 minutes but most of that is taken up by shufflling about and squeezing into room as well as many interuptions. If you go to Fumone do enjoy the surrounding buildings, houses, the backs streets and the view . Skip the castle. Parking space were limited and there is a there is a traffic policeman always on guard.

You will step back in time when you explore this castle. There were very few tourists, other than school children when we were there in April. We found it very interesting. The view from the top is wonderful!
