About
Enjoy our decadent cakes and a cup of freshly brewed coffee at the coffee shop, while taking in the stunning views of the alpaca herd and Table Mountain in the background. Watch our weavers at work, interact with the alpacas and all the other animals in the petting zoo and have your kids use up all that pent-up energy on the jungle gym or go on an Alpaca Barn Tour. Since 2004, the alpaca herd has grown substantially to over 300 animals. The wool is sent for spinning and is then either hand-woven or woven on a mechanical loom in small runs on the actual farm. At The Alpaca Loom we produce a variety of woven scarves, shawls, blankets and rugs using the beautiful range of natural colours that our alpacas produce. Open daily: 09:30 to 17:30 Alpaca Barn Tours: Meet our alpaca herd up close and find out more about this special animal and its luxurious fiber. Every hour on the hour Alpaca Walks: Explore the farm accompanied by an alpaca on a halter. Daily at 10:00 & 16:00
Duration: 1-2 hours

Touring the farm and meeting lots of alpacas was a simple pleasure after spending time in the wine area of Paarl. Names like Macchiato and Kolbe put a smile on my face. You can meet the baby alpacas and petting area for an up close and personal experience. Also, the coffee shop is a must visit.

Instead of admiring alpacas, we were forced to attend the birth of a baby for 50 minutes. We were not given a choice, but simply led to the place where it was happening. The process is intimate, natural and physiological, but it was made into a show. The cherry on the cake was the placenta, which the veterinarian happily shook in front of the astonished eyes of the public. It was a pity for the poor alpaca, around which a crowd gathered with phones. I am shocked by the mores of this society.

We hosted our little girl's birthday party in the tented venue at Alpaca Loom. From the very start the owners and managers, Kerstin and Dietmar, were a pleasure to work with. Everything was well organised, neat and clean. The venue was great, the view fantastic. The service was excellent and professional. The kids absolutely loved the alpacas and the rest of the farm animals. We booked a barn tour for all of us and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The tour was interesting and very informative. Afterwards Dietmar called us back and we were delighted to witness the birth of a new alpaca, what an experience, priceless. Thank you so much for accommodating us, we had a blast and we will definitely return for future visits. You guys rock!

Visiting the Alpaca Loom is a fantastic way to spend a day in the winelands. They have a lovely coffee and gift shop. The gift shop comprises of some beautiful hand made garments from the farm itself. Its quite an amazing experience to watch the ladies weave these beautiful items. The Alpacas are just too cute! They have wonderful guided tours and the guides are very informative and friendly. We had the opportunity to feed the alpacas as well as some of the other beautiful animals on the farm. They have Lamas, Camels, Goats and so much more! This is a great venue for both kids and adults. Another plus with this venue is that they also host private functions. I will highly recommend visiting them if you find yourself in the area. They are open 7 days a week. Thank you to everyone for hosting us and sharing your love for these animals with us. It was truly a wonderful day!

I love alpacas! It has been such a privilege to be able to interact with them up close and personal. A truly memorable experience. Our guide was a delightful young lady that made sure the tour was both educational and entertaining. The staff at the Alpaca loom were very friendly and amazing. They readily accommodated my mobility issues.
The farm was well maintained and the animals were well kept and happy. It would be nice for the cafe to have more vegan options beside the soya milk. I would recommend this establishment for any animal lover.
