Great hiking and views. The site is very historic and the geological formation of the boulders is cool to see. It is possible to see stone cuts made into the boulders hundreds of years ago and a rock column with a defect left abandoned on the hillside. There is a small museum at the base of the trails. The hiking can be somewhat intensive on trails - and if taking shortcuts, be cautious of slippery stones and moss. If you are too lazy to hike to the top, there is also a sketchy one-lane road to access the top of the trails near the restaurant Ada's Buka but that road is sometimes closed.

The Felsenmeer is an interesting geological formation. Huge boulders of diorite covering a large area create a unique landscape, created by weathering of the crystalline basement rock. It's a great place to go while hiking through the Odenwald (which I really recommend). The trails are well-marked and there's a parking lot so it's a great place to start a hiking trip, especially as there are other interesting locations nearby (within hiking distance) to go see. There is a visitor's center too, but I haven't been inside. I prefer starting at the top, at the far end from the visitor's center. I have been at the Felsenmeer several times to climb a bit on the rock or to begin a hike.

Submerge yourself in a million year old geological formation for a natural workout; climb and/or descend hundreds of rocks scattered along a breathtaking slope; enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Odenwald. Great fun for kids and adults of all ages.

This is an amazing place. Set in idyllic scenery (Lautertal) it is a popular haunt for families at the weekend. Take a small back pack with plenty of water and some energy bars, park the car at the bottom and walk up. My little boy (6) loved scrambling around on the boulders and raced his friend to the bridge. We adults took our time, taking in the scenery. The facilities are good. There are two big parking lots, one at the top and one at the bottom. There is a building museum at the bottom and a kiosk at the top, as well as a restaurant with beer garden.
The history of the place is also fascinating, apparently the Romans used it as a quarry.
Those with small kids would probably aim for the bridge, others can try the whole trek. You can also take walking the path around the edge if you get tired of the boulders. Well worth a visit.

My kids loved scrambling around the boulders. Great facilities including a restaurant with beer garden and kiosk. It’s a long way from the car park at the bottom to the top...so take your time and take on the scenery

I visited this place about one month ago, but stll I have impressions about it.
We climbed about 1 km and I admit that it was hard, but it was a big relief, when I got to the top and I could realised how big distance I overcame. I liked it very much.
If you want to visit this place it's better for you to wear sport clothes or somethink like this. Also I would recommend you to take minimum things with you, so it will be easy for you to climb and a lot of water :)
If you feel tired, you can use another way to "climb" - there is a path on the right of begining.
At the top there are some Ancient greek columns.
Good luck :)

If you are in the Odenwald, and near Reichenbach, plan for a stop at the Felsenmeer. There are trails and a nice park to explore these boulders that were put there by a volcano. Take a picnic lunch and a bottle of wine and enjoy the country side. Felsenmeer, literally means a sea of stones.

FELSENMEER is a blockfield (boulder field) with huge block sized rocks in all shapes and sizes lying around. This one is huge. It takes at least 30-40min to hike to the top at a quick pace. A more relaxed approach will take you up to an hour. The blockfield is sourrounded by woods. There is very little touristic infrastructure during the climb so you might want to bring some extra water. This a perfect half day familiy activity.

Really cool place to get some fresh air after an international flight. There is a trail for those not up to the rock climb, but the climb is the best part! I recommend this attraction to those in search of a challenge or yearning for a leisurely walk in the woods.

Spend a couple hours climbing huge boulders at this random stop between Mannheim and Frankfurt. It's a boy's dream (or anyone who enjoys climbing things). There is a machine to pay for parking and a visitor's center with bathroom, as well as another toilet at the very top. There are guided tours, or you can just take the walk yourself. I chose to start from the bottom and climb up to the top, using only the rocks (no footpath). It's very fun and offers a nice view from the top. If you want cheap fun for the family, check this place out.
