- DIKA BALI DRIVER TOURKuta, Indonesia747 contributionsTanah lot templeI visited Tanah Lot Temple with my family. After buying tickets, we went straight into the temple area. It turned out that the inside was very nice with views of the open sea. We were happy to take photos there. Our children could also play in the garden area. The place was clean. We spent a really good time. there for a long timeVisited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 February 2024
- lefunesteValence, France314 contributionsNot bad, very busy. The site is very beautiful, by the sea. You can't really access the temple. You have to cross a very large commercial area before getting there. Already crowded early in the morning, in the evening it must be very crowded We should be able to see sunsets more peacefully than that.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 February 2024
- CoffeeGuyzPlaya Coronado, Panama260 contributionsI must see for any tourist going to BaliAn amazing sacred location that should not be missed on any visit to Bali. Went for sundown and unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. But the grounds are stunning, the temple from the outside is beautiful, and the ocean provides a great backdrop.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 February 2024
- Fabienne BSaint-Pierre-de-Varengeville, France47 contributionsTanah lot a beautiful view at sunsetTanah lot is a place by the sea, visitors queue to access it. It is particularly beautiful at sunset, and to admire it we advise you to go up to the sunset café a little higher up, and enjoy a small cocktail or a bintang beer while waiting. Then let's admire the bats which then invade the nearby cave...it is then time to leave the placeVisited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 4 March 2024
- edie209Saltash, United Kingdom859 contributionsTanah lot, it never disappointsWe have been to Tanah Lot so many times, I have lost count. cand seems to change with the years. The first time I saw it was in 1999 and you could travel back to Kuta after sunset really easy. These days be prepared to get caught in traffic, we now stay closer and make a real trip of it enjoying the sunrise too which is such a get experience because you almost get it to yourself.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 March 2024
- Trip To tryFerrara, Italy131 contributionsIs it worth it at sunset? It is a temple in the middle of the sea, reachable at low tide. Inside the temple is very simple (there are much more beautiful temples in Bali). The real reason to go there is to watch the sunset over the sea and enjoy this view which is truly unique and wonderful. Positive aspects: breathtaking view, beautiful sunset, incredible souvenir photos Downsides: - traffic to get to the temple to take into consideration: move VERY early to get to Tanah Lot in time (it took us 3 hours from Uluwatu to Tanah Lot, arriving just in time to see the sunset) - quantity of people at the temple: just like us, many other people visit the temple at sunset. For this reason, keep in mind that you will have to make an effort to take photos without too many people in front of the temple and that the suggestive atmosphere is "lost" a little - now a tourist place: a real souvenir market has been set up at the entrance to the temple, which gives the impression of visiting a tourist attraction rather than a quiet and intimate place of worship Is worth? It is certainly a unique sunset in the world and we recommend you go there if you visit Bali in the low season. In high season you must take into account that you will have to dedicate a few hours to visit Tanah Lot at sunset (either in traffic or to be there much earlier to avoid queues)Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 March 2024
- nhandreaVenice, Italy1,236 contributionsHighlight attraction???The size of the temple is very surprising compared to that of the tourist structure that has grown up around it.... practically we are 1 in 10 To be clearer, the temple cannot be seen from the shore, tourists are obviously not allowed to enter the actual temple and you can forget about the romantic view at sunset from September to May when usually if it is not cloudy there is it's still hazy. Aside from all that, if you don't have high expectations, there is a kind of lookout nearby just at the perfect angle to see the temple and take some nice photos. Giving a vote to a sacred place like this even seems blasphemous, let's say that you vote for the experience, and here we are not talking about tourism, even something more, let's say that now people come here just to add a flag on the map. At least I came there to meet up with friends, so I felt less treacherous... I admit, however, that you can't come to Bali and not visit Tanah Lot. Let's say you have to go there, come on :-)Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 March 2024
- roxa1956Rome, Italy434 contributionsHindu temple located on an islet, a destination for pilgrimages and tourists.Hindu temple located on an island that can be reached on foot if there is no high tide. Entrance fee, inside the site there are kiosks selling food including coconuts to drink with a straw, various street vendors. There are even places with python snakes who, for a small offer, take a photo of tourists with the snake around their neck. The circuit takes place along the coast road overlooking the temple.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 April 2024

My wife and I had a great private experience and were lucky enough to catch it at low tide which made for great photos. Tanah lot is a temple located in the sea and claimed to be the work of 16th-century religious figure Dang Hyang Nirartha who was influenced by Hinduism. There is chain of sea temples that surrounds Bali. located along the south-western coast.
Now, if you’re hoping to stroll in, think again—entrance is strictly off-limits. this temple is absolutely stunning, especially at sunset. If you want that perfect shot, just make sure your camera’s ready to capture the glow of both the sky and the temple, and avoid slipping on the wet rocks. It is a great sight of the waves thrashing on the rocks. . There are a lot of photo spots near the temple overlooking the temple, the sea and the Balinese architecture.
It is said that the temple is guarded by the venomous snake from intruders. These slippery guardians of the temple's turf don't take kindly to intruders, and they’re probably more intimidating than your most overzealous security guard. According to legend, these snakes are there to keep the temple safe, so you better believe they take their job seriously.
There is lot of the famous candi bentar—a split gateway that greets you at the entrance, looking like it got a little too eager and split in half. This classic Balinese gateway isn’t just for temples; it’s also used at palaces and cemeteries. Y

Tanah Lot ranks amongst the most visited site in Bali, so expect crowds. Also, expect souvenir shops, hawkers and restaurants. Lots of people on TA complain about the entrance fee, but I think it is a modest contribution for the upkeep of this gem.
The temple itself is a Hindu sacred site, so accessible for believers only. Fair enough.
So be happy to walk the cliff and snap one of the most picturesque sites in Bali.

visited here in the late morning and find it crowded. so can only imagine how much worse the crowds are during sunset.
the tanah lot temple is located off the coast from mainland and accessible only during low tide. so check the tide tables before coming, but keep in mind that you cannot actually enter the temple unless you are heading for prayers. that is pretty much the theme across most if not all temples in bali
there are other smaller temples (batu) that you can check out along the same cliff promenade
if your visit coincide with meal times, i recommend heading to the nearby Bebek Sari Uma restaurant for their famous duck dish.

Great for seeing lots of tourists but not much of the temple. When you try to walk up the stairs for a better view, locals push you towards the holy water to make donations. After doing this and walking up a few stairs, you realise it's closed and no one is allowed up. It felt like a scam and a waste of time! We paid an entrance fee, and when we searched for a toilet, they asked for money to use it. Fine, but then we were confronted with a disgusting toilet that hadn't been cleaned in a week! A major tourist attraction with no clean, free toilets? Come on! Honestly, not worth the trip.

For me not worth the visit. We were there today from 17:00-19:00 . The temple was closed as you could only walk to the closed gate on the hill.
The ticket prices are raised. Now it is 75.000 per adult. We were with 4. Then 300.000 is a lot of money for only seeing a lot of clothes sellers, a see with waves, some statues and a temple high above a hill from a distance.

Pura Tanah Lot is one of Bali's most iconic and stunning temples! 🕌🌊 Perched on a rocky outcrop in the sea, Tanah Lot offers breathtaking views, especially during sunset. The temple's unique location makes it a must-visit for anyone traveling to Bali. At low tide, you can walk across the beach to reach the temple and explore its surroundings. The sight of the waves crashing against the rocks adds to the mystical atmosphere.
The area around Tanah Lot is well-developed for tourists, with numerous shops, restaurants, and cultural performances. Despite its popularity, the temple retains a serene and spiritual ambiance that captivates visitors.
Visiting Pura Tanah Lot is not just about the temple itself but also the overall experience of the coastal scenery and Balinese culture. Whether you're a photography enthusiast, a spiritual seeker, or just someone looking to enjoy a beautiful sunset, Tanah Lot will not disappoint. Highly recommended!

Although the Tanah Lot temple is located quite a distance from the congested areas of Nusa Dua, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, and Benoa, I highly recommend it to those who want to see a spectacular sunset at night under clear skies. You will never regret traveling through heavy traffic from Nusa Dua to Tanah Lot Temple. This is a popular tourist destination that you cannot skip.

We managed to nail the weather on the day which is a must do since nothing is under cover.
We went for sunset which I highly recommend as the temple views are incredible but photos look amazing with the ambience of the coloured sky.
After sunset, everyone piles out pretty quickly which creates lots of traffic getting out and on the roads nearby.
If you have time, sit in the gardens (there is ample lighting) grab a BBQ corn, cold drink or brouse the stores for half hr and you'll have a much easier trip home. Our driver recommended this and it really paid off when we saw the mass exit.
Even though access to the temple is restricted, the entire landscape is still incredible and worth 2hrs of your time.

We took a Grab from Canggu to Tanah Lot in an afternoon to walk around there and see the temples. Unfortunately, it was not a big shot. What was most exciting was to go out on the rocks towards the temple which was located on an isolated little island, but there were incredible crowds there.
Worth knowing is that it cost admission of about 100 SEK for two adults. We were there for a maximum of 1 hour before we decided to move on. In retrospect, we feel we could have skipped this stop.

Hello everyone,
I am wondering if it is a prerequisite to be religious when visiting temples in Bali? I am not religious (sadly I lost my spirituality when I was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and do not want to cause offense to local customs. I would also wonder if there is a dress code to adhere to? I would describe my general attire as fairly non revealing, but of course these things can be perceived differently by others.
Thanks in advance,

Hi brother. I will try to explain about your question. Actually any personality and any health conditions that you experiance, do not prevent you to coming in Bali at the tourist attraction of the tample’s like Tanah Lot. The tample beside the holy place is also one of the tourist attractions becouse of the beauty of its shape exotic natural beauty.
Indeed to visit a holy place like a tample must be dressed in a polite and appropriate because after all its the culture in local belief.
Even by coming there you can get a new experience to be more peacefull after returining from Bali. Peace of mind is one of the medicines that can cure any disease as long as you find a sense of peacefull and hapines, it’s one of Bali culture beliefs.
Thank you
Kindly regarsd from Bali 🙏

Although Grab is available in Bali but only in selective areas.
I really don’t know why?
Maybe because they wish to promote people hiring private cars & bikes.
Bikes are available just outside this place.
