Charming landmark in beautiful surroundings. A worthy celebration of the starting point of a mythical river, so important to Europe and its history. Surrounded by a beautiful church and stylish park.

We went here to see the origin of the Danube, which turns out to not be the origin of the Danube:-) We walked around, clean, organised. The city is very clean, we sat in a coffee shop, enjoyed the sunlight. If you have nothing to...More

Though it is not a source of water dorectly from the mountains (that one is higher in Germany), the well is really nice and interesting to see as a part of the geographical culture. There is also an elevator to it (I believe 2 floors)....More

Throw a coin in the basin, and se what it will bring you. The source is framed by a nice balustrade and statues, it lies between the Schloss Fürstenberg with the lovely "royal" park and the great baroque cathedral

Its nice to see where the Danube starts and how it spreads throughout Europe. Definitely suggest going to see. It is not maintained, however. The water was not clean there was a lot of debris when we were there. Hope it was just the time...More

This is a fantastic place, the spring of Donau, the bigest river from Europe. Unfortunately for this amazing place are no street indicators, finding it quite difficult after a huge building.

Newly renovated spot, where the apparent source of the Danube is. Lovely area and good access - even with elevator.

The Donauquelle was a disappointing experience. First of all, it's not the real one. It's just a commercial place. When we went there, the park and the castle were closed, so we could not see anything besides the spring.

If it wasn't for the spring I suspect the town would be just another sleepy backwater (although it does have the large Furstenberg brewery which has history dating from 1283). Interestingly there were two municipalities vying for the right to call their spring the source...More

If you happen to be in Donauschingen it's worth a visit and the town itself is very nice. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit this sight.
