The village has a XVI century building that was constructed by the Knights of the Order of Alcantara (their crest is below the left upper window) as a hospital for pilgrims on the nearby Via de la Plata up to Santiago de Compostella - hence the name of the village. There's a splendid church but you must ask for the key to see inside, plus a Hermitage and an ancient stone way mark cross - allse inlovely countryside. The village is linked to Zarza de Montánchez by walking along part of the Cordel de Mérida a Trujillo - the old sheep moving route. It takes about 50 minutes to walk and is very pretty in Spring. The Cafe Fé, next to the Town Hall is very friendly, welcomes walkers and is spotless. The coffee is excellent.
