Rose lovers heaven
May 2018 • Friends
We were lucky enough to visit this rose garden with our Twinning French family and we all had a superb day out. We ate at the Pavillon Normand which is located in the gardens and had a lovely lunch accompanied by a glass of rose before we set off on a leisurely walk around these extensive gardens. Many photos later we sat in the shade and discussed in fractured French and English the attributes of different roses and their lovely scents.

Good to see anytime
Apr 2017
Beautiful park, full of huge secular trees.
The rose garden is opening from May to September and for few Euros you can admire thousands and thousands of roses, one more beautiful than the other.
It is a must to see even if it is or not the season of roses.

Visit if you're in the area
Jun 2017 • Family
We went this afternoon the weather was lovely and they had some sort of private function going on at the restaurant.

The gardens are very beautiful but we had the impression that the maintenance isn't as through as other gardens we have visited. A lot of the roses had died and the roses on the pergolas were sparse in areas.

Nevertheless we had a lovely walk around.

3.10 entry for an adult, free for job seekers (with proof) and children under 5 are free.

We met a couple of Chinese ladies who got very frustrated with me and my daughter as we were in the background of their selfies. If this happens just advise them to use a photo editor such as photoshop!

A real rosy day
Jun 2016
The Roseraie at Val-de-Marne about 11 kms outside Paris is a really beautiful garden that presents you with a spectacular display of every conceivable rose one could possibly imagine.
With its trestle walkways full of climbing displays and aromas. This place is a must for rose and flower lovers of the world. Time flys by in the wonderous displays of floral magnificence.

My favourite place in the world
Jun 2016 • Couples
What a glorious place to be proposed to. I love gardens and particularly roses. Our wander around this beautiful setting was to be topped off with a surprise question. I am so glad I bought the dvd so I can relive the wonderful day we had, in addition to the hundreds of photographs I took myself. I don't pretend that my fiancé would care to review the dvd as often as I would. :) It was already going to be one of the top experiences of my trip, but now it easily tops the list. Glad the dvd comes in English as well as French.

One of the world's great rose gardens
Jun 2016 • Solo
It's surprising that there are currently only three reviews of this garden in English (but numerous ones in French). It's clearly a well-hidden secret, known mostly to locals. This garden is considered to be one of the major gardens worldwide for old roses, so it should be better known. It doesn't appear to be publicized much, and it not mentioned in many guide books. I found out about it a few years ago only through a specialist book about gardens in Europe, and this was my second visit. It's worth the trip, if you are in the Paris area, and especially if you are in Paris in the second half of May or in June.

Since the garden specializes in old roses, which mostly bloom only once between about the middle of May to the middle or end of June, that is the best time to visit. Old roses are known for their fragrance, and the scent through the gardens is wonderful when they are in full bloom. The garden would be nice anytime during the summer, as the garden does incorporate some modern repeat-blooming roses, but between about mid-May to the end of June the garden explodes into bloom and is quite spectacular.

The labelling of the roses is quite complete, and there are signs in various parts of the garden which give some insight into the history of rose breeding. (They may be only in French; I actually can't remember if they also had English translations).

It's quite easily accessible by public transit, using the RER B2 or B4 lines from various places in downtown Paris south to the Bourg-le-Reine station, and then Bus #172 to the garden itself (and in reverse to return to downtown Paris). I think details about this are given on the website for the garden.

I chuckled at one of the French reviewers, who said that the servers at the on-site cafe were not welcoming and were incompetent. Well, yes, they probably are, but I still ate there and enjoyed the meal. The food was fine, and the setting made up for the rather slow service.

One of the most beautiful places in the world to see Roses!
May 2015 • Solo
This lesser known garden is just a 30" bus ride from Paris. It is beyond beautiful, and highly fragrant. A photographer or gardner's paradise with literally hundreds of varieties of roses from Mid May to early September. Don't miss it!!!

There is also a small cafe on the grounds

Simply wonderful!
Jul 2014 • Couples
When in Paris try to spare some time and visit this park during the end of Spring, when the roses come out and make an amazing spectacle of colors and fragrances! I hadn't ever seen such a beautiful flower park and this one is simply wonderful!

It's located South-side of Paris and is in a relatively easy-of-access location (from Paris you can take the train RER B southwards to Bourg-la-Reine station, where you can walk 2 min and pick a bus -- about 30 min total ride), but totally worth it! Another nice aspect: there's a restaurant inside, where you can eat outside and appreciate the wonders of the flowers.

Entrance: about 3 EUR.

una rosa è una rosa

In case you want a different experience in Paris and have some spare time, May, June are the best to visit gardens. La Roseraie, situated in a large shady park, collects more than 3000 species of roses, botanique, ancient and modern, those created for emperess Josephine and Chinese or Japanese ones, and hundreds of other sorts. It is a joy for your eyes and your nose. You reach the park by bus - 184, from Porte d'Italie, bus stop Sous-Prefecture Eglise. And near the bus stop a great Boulanger, with inusual sorts of bread and succulent pastry and cakes. Worth visiting in a hot summer afternoon.
