Beautiful walk down memory lane. Met my husband here Jan 1980. A positive transformation, gardens, and grounds are well looked after. We visited on a Wednesday morning, an underutilized Beautiful open green space. Should be more encouragement to use during the week.

Beautiful surprise with cool avenues of trees. Interesting trees from Jurassic period and a Hiroshima Peace Legacy alcove with trees that are descended from those near ground zero.

Super annoyed. The security told us we must pack up we not allowed to picnic. Upon our exit I told them there are more people picnicking and then they said 'oh we were wrong it is allowed'. They had called their manager to find out and didn't even have the decency to come and apologize or even tell us!

Thanks for sharing this feedback. The garden is managed by the City of Cape Town and, as of Friday (21 Aug 2020), we were all awaiting guidance from the director of the Recreation and Parks Department on when weddings and picnics could safely resume in Arderne. If the city had made a change but not yet communicated as far down as the security staff, there is unfortunately no way they could've known it was okay to let you (and others) picnic. I'm very sorry this lack of communication ultimately led to the disruption of your day. The Friends of the Arderne Gardens is doing our best to continue to share any COVID-19-related updates on our social media accounts as soon as we receive them from the city. We hope you'll come back again to visit this summer.

We had a very nice afternoon wandering around these gardens on the hill. Some very special landscaping, exotic plants, great views of the city. A nice treasure of the city.

I have stayed in Claremont/Newlands many times and am ashamed to say that I have never been to these gardens before and they are probably not on most tourists radar.

You can park on the road outside and there is no admission charge. I think it is true that whilst the gardens are reasonably well maintained they have, probably due to financial constraints, seen better days.

However some of the huge trees are absolutely fantastic , the like of which I have never seen before. One can only imagine what these gardens were like at their pristine best in years gone by but make no mistake they are still very much worth a visit - an hour will suffice.

I shall make sure I visit again next time I am in Cape Town. Some of those massive tall trees will linger long in the memory.

We visit the gardens at least once a year as a family. As beautiful as they are, they were not looking as good as usual.

Also found that a lot of the wedding parties that we witnessed on this day were urinating right there in the garden agains the beautiful trees, amoung the huge roots where our choldren play and were not making use of the bathroom facilities; not a single grounds keeper or employee of ths park in sight monitoring or enforcing park rules on the day.
Disgusting and disappointing.

Marie from the Friends of the Arderne Gardens (FOTAG) here. I'm so sorry to hear your recent experience in Arderne. I will escalate this feedback to the committee at FOTAG so that they're aware of your complaints. The premises is overseen and managed by the City of Cape Town. A piece of tranquil green in the middle of all the concrete.
Well maintained gardens. with walkways and lawns. Whether it is for a relaxing stroll, or a picnic. Enjoy

No entrance fee, but donations box available to support the upkeep.
Parking out on the public road.

The reason I went there was to see some of the declared Champion Trees in the gardens.

Worth the visit.

Amongst the hustle and bustle of Claremont Main Road is a pocket of peace with stunning trees to sit under. Truly worth a visit!
