The busses run through Borrowash where you an get off and walk till you meet the river and then follow the path into Elvaston Castle Park. Stop for a coffee and cake at the cafe of course. Then wander through the Italian gardens and out through the gates and catch the bus back at the other side.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 19 October 2023

The castle itself is small and you cant enter except the cafe bit but dont let that put you off. £7 parking all day is a great price. The park is free and lovely to walk around. Park was closed. There is nothing on the website to suggest this. I agree with the closing of it for the resons they stated, but this needs to be actually communicated and put on the website rather than just putting a poster on a locked gate, so people dont drive there for nearly an hr to find that its closed. Not happy!

Live and visit here regularly. Visited today Tuesday 15th August, parked ok and a slow walk to Wyatts and sat outside in the sum and had a coffee. We have been around the church and Italian gardens before but not the Walled garden so off we went to find . the gates locked, we were disappointed as were others getting there same time. Do they show when its open anywhere for visitors to read

I went to Elvaston with my son and family. The grounds provided a good walk in attractive surroundings. It rained a bit but that's March for you. It didn't put us off.

Easy to get to, plenty of signposts on the roads. Large car park area. Pay and display with Blue Badge holders free. Toilets at the car park. Lovely walks around the lake, gardens and a fascinating church / graveyard to visit to which is within the grounds. You can't go into the hall / house itself but the whole place is a very interesting and enjoyable place to visit for 2- 3 hours or so. Gift shop and cafe in courtyard areas along with toilets. Mens toilets pretty grim though it has to be said. All in all for a free place to visit, minus the car parking - this place is a great place to visit if you haven't been before.

Fantastic place. Very well kept grounds and so many little surprises along the way for little ones or four legged friends to explore.

Although the castle itself is a bit run down and the stables need to find a new lease of life the whole place is a magical place to visit, I would describe it as frozen in time as the modern world has been kept out so far. The grounds are superb with lakes and follies and beautiful walled garden. Definitely worth a visit

Is the castle and grounds wheelchair accessible? Are the grounds hilly or is it flat? Are the paths mainly concrete or gravel?

There are some hard paths that are wheelchair accessible round the courtyard and cafe and immediately round the castle with views of the lake. Other paths are gravel or over grass
Hi I was wondering if I can park my motorhome in the grounds just for the day and if so what would it cost.?

You can park the motorhome in the small area where horse boxes park. This section of the car park is to the right of the main entrance as you drive in and there are some toilets opposite. Enjoy your day.

Hi. When will the Old English Garden be open at Elvaston Castle please? It would be nice to see what flowers are in bloom if there are any. Thanks for your help

Hi
Elvaston Castle is now open so presume the formal gardens are also, but there no amenities available at the moment.

Are you allowed to erect a small event tent for shade. We are having a family gathering and picnic?
