Ireland seems full of castles (well, what they call castles in any case). They are generally nice, but not spectacular. This one is not exception. On a sunny day, a walk in the gardens or a coffee at the castle may be nice. The building...More

It is a short walk from the train station, but the castle and golf course are up a pretty steep incline. The castle isn't open to the public, but is worth seeing. The golf course views were lovely! We had a great bartender up there...More

The castle is very beautiful, however closed to tours on Saturdays. We did get to walk the grounds and there was a tea room that was open to the public.

We toured the village prior to coming to the castle but it was closed. We did tour the grounds and it was still rather pretty. There was also a cafe that you could visit that was open I believe. There are some walking trails and...More

Howth Castle is a beautiful place on a fantastic landscape. It’s housed in a great seaside town that we enjoyed exploring! Unfortunately, we were unable to go on tour as they were not open.

Great views from the top, it's a shame the hotel is closed. Nice to see the castle still lived in, one of these days will do the cookery days just so I can see inside

Actually the oldest castle STILL inhabited by the historical family. Has numerous time periods added and obviously they live in the most modern not falling down section! Actually quite a pretty place with lovely grounds. Apparently they like their privacy to a certain extent and...More

We open the house to the public for guided tours that can be booked on-line in July and August at weekends only- that is when they fill. We simply do not put on tours when the revenues from the tour do not cover the cost...More

It was very interesting to walk through the lobby of this castle. You see the old part of the establishment plus where there has been some modernization due to necessity. Being 800 years old it looks wonderful.
