We visited this church and the surrounding churchyard in the last week of June 2018 . It has a beautiful interior - lots of gorgeous painted statues and very fine wood carving - including a very valuable and lovely statue of the Virgin Mary . Pope Benedict had been a previous visitor and his visit was well noted in the church notice boards . Sir John Sutton of Nottingham is buried in the churchyard ( sometime in the nineteenth century ) - I plan to look up who he was and what his link with Kiedrich was .

This church is small but lavishly decorated, with interesting carved and painted pews, a dramatic organ (one of the oldest in Germany), lovely stained glass windows, and a lot of little ornamental surprises throughout. Absolutely worth a detour, and a nice alternative to some of the grander cathedrals you may have encountered in your travels.

You wouldn't expect to find such a beautiful church in the small town of Kiedrich. It is definitely worth visiting this Catholic church, which was elevated to a so-called minor basilica by the then Pope Benedict XVI in 2010.
