No trip to the Castleton area would be complete without walking through Winnat's Pass. Driving through just doesn't give you the same experience. The walk is fairly easy downwards towards Speedwell Cavern, but tough on the way back. Well worth it though just to see...More

We drove down the pass to Castleton and it was amazing. The views on a sunny day are second to none and it was lovely to have the sheep right next to the road free to go anywhere they liked!

The really spectacular scenery in the Peak district. Lovely but smells sheep will always be there. A little bit too steep to climb the hills, need to avoid touching stinging nettles which are everywhere.

Driving east out of Castleton, the 'modern' road is cut through Winnat's pass. Built after the old Mam Tor road slipped down the hill side for the last time. I'd driven down through the pass approx. 10 years ago, but this was the first time...More

This famous pass is hauntingly beautiful in its isolation and stupendous size. I found it just as awesome at night, too. One can hike around it, and there are also caves to explore. There will be admission charges for the caves, though While we were...More
