This walking trail is a definite must if you are visiting Boppard. There are picturesque views of the river and town below as well as silent walks through the woods and streams. The 5.1km loop is not overly challenging physically with only a few steep climbs.

We unsure if the hiking gear was required, we hired it just to be on the safe side. There are alternative hiking routes for all the climbing sections which are all sign posted.

I ran up to the top of the hill. It was a lot of fun and more of a challenge than I was bargaining for, but completely feasible. It was much more challenging running down the opposite side (I went up by a chairlift and then down the other side that is less travelled). Make sure you've got steady footwear. I was in sneakers and lost traction at times.

We visited with a 8 yr old and 4.5 year old. You must have the harness and gear - especially for the kids! They can be rented from the Aral gas station on roadway 9 near by. We had a difficult time figuring this out and went back and forth a bit. Rental is only 5€, but requires a 20€ deposit as well. Follow the signs to the start. It will take you around a house and you'll be looking at a fence/gate that looks like a dead end. Keep walking towards the gate... the pathway starts just to the right of the gate and it's small! (This also took us a while to figure out!) You follow the path for a bit before you get to the first ladder. The splits between the ladder path and the walking path are pretty well marked. As far as the ladders- there isn't a lot of instruction and you are on your own. Our 4.5 yr old needed a lot of help with the clips, but it was definitely doable for these two adventurous kids. We could not find much information on how many ladders there were and where they were along the path... no info, in fact. So, we did the first 8 ladders (they're marked with numbers) and checked how far we had gone- only 1km of the 5km trail! It's quite a long walk to ladder #9 (maybe 1km which is a lot considering the first 8 ladders were all in succession). Since it was getting late in the day and we didn't have a good idea of how far it was and how many more ladders there were, we decided to head back and took the "easy" path back to the trail head. That proved to be just the right amount for the 4 yr old because he was worn out by the time we got back. Two of the first 8 ladders were fairly challenging. Overall, we'd like to go back earlier in the day and try the rest of the course- maybe in a year or two when the little guy is a bit older. We would definitely recommend this course, but not if you are afraid of climbing or heights.

We really liked the climb. Beautiful view, nice walking roads with good signs. Everything was correct. Use security belt and dress flexible. Drink beer at Vierseen.

I was a little wary, since harnesses were talked about and I don't speak German at all. I didn't know what to expect because I get a bit dizzy with heights. I knew my kids would love to do this from seeing the pictures, but I didn't want to do it if it was too dangerous. (My kids are 13 and 16 and very good hikers, with no fear, I should say.) With that being said, I don't think it's as dangerous as the pictures make it look. The climbing areas make it so much more fun than a regular walking hike. We didn't need harnesses, but I think with younger kids, or older people, it could be a good idea. We LOVED this hike. It's gorgeous with views of the river and fun climbing areas. If I knew in advance that you can bypass the climbing areas, and walk around them, I wouldn't have worried so much. It's a loop, so it takes around two to two and a half hours at a brisk pace. You could turn around and go back, but I think it would be more dangerous going that way.
