The permanent exhibition (works by Olaf Gulbransson) alone is worth it. We went to the museum because of the special exhibition (cross-over) and discovered the brilliant illustrator and caricaturist Gulbransson and were impressed. The architecture and location of the museum are also outstanding! Be sure to watch the film about Gulbransson!

In the second special exhibition this year, the museum presents over 60 works, mainly oil and tempera works by Christan Rohlfs.
Through a longer hospital stay at a young age and against boredom, he discovered the talent for painting. At first he mainly painted landscapes and went from Impressionism to Expressionism to abstraction.
A lot to me that he kept painting flowers and a lot of magnolias.
It is also interesting that many works come from various private collections and are on public display for the first time in years.
For art lovers the exhibition is a MUST !

A special exhibition of 88 Gerhard Richter works is currently being shown in the Olaf Gulbransson Museum.
Both exhibitions are worth seeing for art lovers. G. Richter, who sees himself more as a picture maker than a painter, tried out many technical finesses, hence the title of the exhibition "Work in the Plural".
Up until now, I have not spent much time with Gulbransson. The films about his life are very informative, especially in the last years he lived in Tegernsee and died here in 1958.

This is a small museum with a collection of works by the Norwegian artist Olaf Gulbransson. Gulbransson was noted for his satirical cartoons and characterisations. Many of these works were published in German and Norwegian newspapers, magazines and periodicals. The works on display in this museum reflect Gulbransson´s view of the cultural and current events of the day. I found it interesting to time travel through German and Norwegian history using the art produced by Gulbransson´s eye and pen.

The museum gives a good overview of the work of this artist, who moved to Germany and finally to Tegernsee in the first decades of the 20th century. There is also a room with pieces of art of local artists. Furthermore many pictures and a movie give insights in the life of Olaf. The museum is rather small and can easily be visited within 1-1,5 hours.
