What Markus Wasmeier has created there is absolutely fantastic! You can now experience first hand what life used to be like! An open-air museum that is incredibly lovingly and meticulously organized!
Great restaurants with very attentive and friendly staff. There is also the option of holding events, weddings or similar.
It is not difficult to spend the whole day there!

This is a living museum put together by Germany's famous olympian, Markus Wasmeir. There was a music festival there when we went which was fabulous. Lots of people in national dress.
Around the site there are buildings depicting life in Bavaria through the ages. So very well done, we thought. A restaurant is available and a bakery.
There is no information in English but we enjoyed it non the less.

What a site that has been constructed to show how people lived years ago with great detail and significant features without missing any thing. A must visit museum.

We were told about this place on the train to Schliersee a couple of days ago and went there this afternoon which was very enjoyable.
This old world village type place has been developed by a well known past champion German sportsman.
It is a collection of old buildings that have been moved or rebuilt on the site using all the skills of yesterday.
It portrays how people lived and worked in the past.
It has been so well done and is a very popular place..
It seemed like every one from the area was there today really enjoying the old world feel and the snow falling all day really added to the mystic of the place .
Today was the final day of the three day Christmas Market that is held there annually, this we felt was very special and we felt so lucky to be in the area for the event. There were great eating and drinking places, plenty of things for kids to do , they were loving the pony rides, great to see artisans making things in the old way, there were so many beautifull things to see and buy if you were so inclined.
We absolutely loved the place, a must see if your in this beautiful area.

Attended the museumand found it closed. Sign on the door closed until 31st march.
Very disappointing as the schillersee accommodation managers were promoting it. So we went for a walk into the township of Neuhaus and found a wonderful bakery/beerhaus (cafe Konditorei) and spent a wonderful time there.
Bus and train stop across the road from the museum and the bakery is basically the first stop from the bus and train

Authentic restored buildings, lots of static displays and working baking and brewing activities. A working farm from the past, well presented.
All signs were in German, which added to the intrigue for someone with limited understanding of the language.
When we were there, there was a wedding reception & most of the guests were wearing traditional costume.

Museum, Walking Tracks, Beer Garden and More
The Old Bavarian Village in Schliersee is a museum of a different art. It showcases old Bavaria of the eighteenth century, as well as, all winter sports related things. An odd combination, one might think, that is, until one relates Markus Wasmeier to the place.
Markus Wasmeier is a German athlete and an alpine racer from the nineteen eighties and nineties. He won two Olympic gold medals for the Giant Slalom and Super-G in the nineteen ninety-four Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. At twenty-one, he had already won the Giant Slalom event at the nineteen eighty-five World Championships in Italy. He also won a total of nine World Cup races, including the Combined and Super-G events in France in nineteen eighty-six. Not surprising though, Markus was born and raised in picturesque Schliersee in Germany.
Markus has founded The Old Bavarian Village on the idea of preserving Bavaria's cultural heritage and modelled it according to the traditional Bavarian rural life of the eighteenth century. He housed and lodged endangered farm animals in the village and on its surrounding meadows and grasslands and planted rare Alpine herbs and vegetables in the herb garden and time-honoured Bavarian crops on the grasslands. That the lake region and mountain scenery of Schliersee is as beauteous and breathtaking as it is seems only fitting to this beautifully rendered old village.
Old Bavarian Village spans an area of sixty thousand square metres, has twelve historic buildings and four courtyards containing their own utility and other auxiliary buildings. There are, among other things, a brewery, a church, an artisan house, a herb garden, a monastery garden, a beer garden, a barn, a bakery, walking and riding tracks, an old-style bread oven, and traditional Bavarian farmhouses.

Created in the open is the museum which highlights the way of work including the authentic wares and tools used years before. The explanation in english is a little too sparse. On site is an oven which dishes out german breads which are excellent.
The rain and bad weather can hamper the visit as walking is in the open.

Small but interesting collection of buildings and artifacts brought from other parts of Bavaria and reconstructed on site. There were demonstrations of hand weaving and wood turning on the day we were there.
Also a nice cafe/restaurant serving Bavarian food and drink.
Only minor gripe from our perspective was that there was no attempt to make the information about exhibits accessible to non-german visitors.
