The castle is on top of a hill overlooking the city, you can easily spot the place from the city center. You can walk or jog from downtown to the castle and enjoy the views as well as visiting inside.

Very nice castle with a great view to the beautifully small town Wernigerode . I hope more people book a trip to the former GDR. It’s so nice.

Lots to see and very pretty castle. We had a guided tour and it was interesting but I would use the audio self tour if I went again. You can get the little train to the castle but after that it is a steep walk...More

We took the road train up to the castle, saves a steep walk. The castle was easy to explore and many of the information signs were in English, so we got a lot of the history of the castle. Amazing g views over the town...More

It’s like out of a fairytale, don’t miss this attraction along with the town square and the old town, so much to see , like stepping back in time, fantastic, highly recommended.

The climb to the castle is definitely worth it if only for the spectacular views across to Brocken mountain and the town. Good food and refreshments also available at the top. Relax and take in the amazing vista. The Castle is reasonably priced at only...More

Worth walking up to, a little steep but better than taking the “train” shuttle if you are reasonably fit. The castle provides stunning views across Wernigerode and is full of interesting rooms, artefacts and pictures. Cost was a reasonable 7 Euro for an adult.

As far as I can tell, the next option is in the very center of Wernigerode only.
