Nice casual stroll
Nov 2018 • Solo
It's a pretty little old town area with cobble stone street and candy can striped buildings. It made for a causal stroll on a Sunday afternoon. Not much open which was nice, keeping foot traffic down.

One of the more attractive old towns
Aug 2018 • Solo
A pleasant moderately sized old town wit a partly completed cathedral and plenty of attractive half-timbered buildings. The tourist office has a free guide to the town (download the English from the tourist office site) which helps ensure you see the main sites. A good view can be had from the road bridge across the river just by the Old Bridge. The old town is about 1 10-15 minute walk from the station. Some busses stop by the old bridge and a shuttle bus seems to serve the old town district. Connections with Goethe are strong and buildings linked to him can be visited.

The best part of Wetzlar! ♥
Aug 2018 • Friends
What else to say than "that's the best part of Wetzlar"? I love the narrow streets, the old half-timbered houses and the stairs that you find here and there to lead you somewhere you've maybe never been before. Even after so many years I still discover new things. If you're somewhere in the middle of Germany, the historic center of Wetzlar is a definite "must see" for your trip! Take a walk around, enjoy some really good coffee (depends where you're going, of course) or traditional German cake and take both a breath and a break.
And maybe you're also in the mood to visit the small, often specialised shops in the area - contrary to the cloned mega-shops that grow everywhere these still have soul and heart.

My recommendation for parking: "Haarplatz" (beyond the Lahnbrücke) or simply "Lahninsel". Easy to find and usually well signed, but both with a fee.

Have a good time and enjoy my hometown! :)

PS: I'm writing in English to help tourists from outside Germany as I'm not sure how good the automatic translation is nowadays. Should you find any mistakes you're free to keep and to pet them. If you find my review helpful in any possible way please let me know :)

Absolutely boring and uninteresting city
Jun 2016 • Solo
Absolutely boring and uninteresting city. Maybe because of the fact that I watched it after Marburg and before Limburg - much more colorful and remarkable towns. But, maybe, Wetzlar really does not deserve attention? Judge for yourself - as the main attractions of the city in fact are considered some buildings of "Leica" concern and several other buildings, connected with Goethe's stay here (he visited Wetzlar for short-term practice of law after university) and circumstances of his first novel "The sorrows of young Werther." Fachwerks (half-timbered buildings) here are pretty ordinary - also in the contrast with Marburg and Limburg, which are the part of "The German Timber-Frame Road". The Cathedral is not finished and leaves a feeling of some eclecticism. Although inside the stained glasses in the style of deliberate primitivism and the sculpture "Pieta" to the right of the entrance look pretty good.

Wetzlar is stunning!
Sep 2016 • Couples
The old central city of Wetzlar is nearly fully restored and exceptionally attractive from the old bridge on the river to the top of the hill. It is a wonderful example of a prosperous Middle Ages town with plenty of open space and amazing old buildings and homes. The residents are very welcoming, shopping is good, and there are plenty of good restaurants. The local pace is much more relaxed than big cities like Heidelberg (for example) and it feels much safer and more friendly, too.
