About
Experience amazing sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes as the past comes to life. Beamish is unique - our objects aren't locked away in glass cases, this is hands-on history! Step into the past and explore our 350 acre site, as Beamish tells the story of the people of North East England in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. Taste traditional food from a coal-fired range, hop on board a tram or steam train, play schoolyard games together and pop into the Co-op shops. Come back time and time again with your Beamish Unlimited Pass, which allows 12 months free entry to the museum from your visit - including all day time special events!

Great day out!
Sep 2021
Excellent place for a good day out! Value for money entrance fees that last a year! Brilliant historical settings recreated, houses, shops etc, outfitted with a great variety of furniture and goods available during the era depicted! Lots of activities from the past to partake in, a mine ( which sadly is temporarily closed due to covid restrictions!), tea shop, a hool, farm and even an old fairground! Trams and old buses to travel between areas.

Some favourite things:
- Chatting to the very knowledgeable volunteers.
- Being able to purchase items at the Bakery.
- Excellent takeaway lunch from the Pub (ordered online)
- Travelling on the train, buses and trams.

All in all a very good day.

This is one of my happy places. It never disappoints and this was no exception. I love how the museum is constantly evolving. Staff and volunteers are wonderful. I love this place.

Definitely worth a visit.

An excellent day out...! It is a huge area with many reconstructed shops and other areas of interest showing life from Victorian times to the present. Vintage buses and trams run very frequently. Some food and drink is available and it has a very good gift shop. Well worth a visit.

Over-rated, costly and lacking information
Aug 2021
We felt that the museum couldn't really cope with the numbers visiting - some folk queued for over an hour for a coffee!

Generally information was sorely lacking. We chatted to one of the volunteers dressed up, and he gave us so much info - it was such a shame that this wasn't available on a map or in a leaflet, or even on signage around the place. .

We wouldn't bother returning

Superb day out for all ages. We spent the whole day here. A trip back in time and a great history lesson for those with kids. Nostalgia everywhere.

Wonderful museum -
This is most certainly one of the best museums in the North-East. There is so much to see. Excellent for groups and young children.
I just love being transported back to times and getting a glimpse of people’s lives then.

For the first time in 40+ years , 'Disappointed'!
Sep 2021
I have been visiting Beamish regularly since the mid 70's and this was our first visit in 4 years. Unfortunately I found it disappointing for the first time ever. The main disappointment was lack of staff and interaction you had with those in the various area's where you used to get people in costume and in 'Character'. The various pit cottages were closed off and you could only look through the windows or door and no information as to what you were looking at. The town and the shops were the same. Buses and Trams were lacking to take you round the various area's apparently because staff were no longer licenced to drive the vehicle's. Overall we felt a general lack of enthusiasm amongst the staff and were disappointed in our visit , even though we are 'Friends of Beamish.
