We did some nice walks here. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants here as well. small winding streets, so nice and easy together lost in.

Photographing!

This beautiful old town lies on a hill! It's perfect for wandering around and to take some nice pictures. The village was not busy at all when we were there, so we liked it very much!

Very quaint village. Take your time to meander through all the little streets, you'll never know when beauty is waiting to be discovered just around the corner.

Combination of an open Roman village with a very living small city
Nov 2019
In Vaison La Romaine one can easely spend a day or more and it is great to see how the evolved from a Roman city via the mediaval ages towards the nice city it is today. It has a very well preserved Roman amfitheatre and surrounding area with an associated nice museum. It is remarkable to see that the Roman city was to be found in the valley as conditions were rather stable at the time of the Roman empire. One can see that the mediaval remains (which are really beautiful as well) are located on the rocks where it was easier to defend itself agains surrounding ennemies. The modern Vaison then again expanded over the old Roman village in the valley.

Pleasant to stroll around
Oct 2019
The old city is nothing very special in an area with many historic hilltop towns and villages. If you are in Vaison and have an hour or so to stroll around its OK but quite a trek up the hill from the river.

Historical and beautiful Provençal town
Sep 2019 • Friends
Really, Vaison la Romaine is worth the journey. The Cité Medieval is just an unspoiled treasure. Visitors aplenty but they walk through as there are some restaurants and only one tourist shop. There is plenty to eat and buy over the other side of the Roman bridge.
Do visit the Roman historic site but go to the Museum first and the “ruins” will come to life.

One of the best weekly markets in the Vaucluse
Jun 2019
A charming town with many restaurants to choose from. An excellent shop that sells the best fresh pate and ham. A really good fish shop that has just reopened. A fine new cinema with three screens. All this and more as the the town is full of very fine Roman sites.

Fabulous Medieval Village

A definite must see in the area. The medieval city provides an interesting opportunity to walk around and explore and Bistro du’O is a perfect lunch spot. Delicious food, great wine selection and beautiful views.

Beautiful town
Aug 2019
We stayed about a ten minute drive from Vaison la Romaine so visited several times for various reasons. It is a busy & vibrant place with lots going on. The Tuesday market was a great experience but we learnt to get there early eg about 8am to avoid the significant crowds. We also visited for the Vide Grenier which had stalls dotted throughout the old quarter and to see the Roman ruins. The old part of town is very beautiful with lots of wonderful architecture & views. We parked at the car park by the roman bridge. Spaces always available (including early Tuesday morning).
