The views and wierd shapes that are formed in the rocks are well worth visiting. There is some clambering if you want the best views but also they have a Petit Train which will take people who aren't so mobile to see some of the site.

That was on my trip from Geneva to South coast of France when I could enjoy the Montpellier-le-Vieux views. The mountains look so picturesque in summer. Like huge giants hanging over the highway. I also liked the camping stops for cars, the toilets were decent....More

This is a highly unusual series of rock formations - in a moonscape like environment - an excellent place to spend 4 hours of walking and talking and admiring the views. Fabulous.

Decided to do the red route, which is indicated as taking 1.5 to 2 hours. We took 2.5 hours, which is an indication of how often we stopped to enjoy the amazing views. There is a lot of unevenness in the route, with some high...More

This place (also advertised as Chaos de Montpellier le Vieux) features some out of the ordinary shaped rocks and a few semi-impressive view points. The area supports several 30-40 minutes walks and a little ¨steam¨ train.

Great walk through rocky surroundings - we took care to stay away as much as possible from the tourist herds, though. Come before noon, afterwards it became a bit too crowded. Some relatively steep areas to walk, great views, overall a nice experience.

Three stars in the Green Michelin, THE guidebook we've used for decades, usually so dependable. But we've gotta say: this time, they're way off. Basically, Montpellier-le-Vieux is a nice area of natural beauty, privately owned and fenced off, with several trails of varying levels of...More
