The fortress is over three centuries old and is a UNESCO world heritage designated site. Given its age, it is in a reasonable state of preservation. The walls, bastions, ditches and the citadel are all in a fine state. The fortress was built in the...More

It isn't often I can't find something interesting or positive to say when visiting a fortress or medieval village... this, unfortunately, is one of those times. The threat of avalanches on a day trip from Barcelona to Andorra rerouted us from the normal stop at...More

The visit is worth the trip even though the site is poorly managed and cared for. Outstanding sightseeing at all times of the year!

It's a medieval fortress with its village around it. Although it's not permited to go inside the fortress, the surrounding are very nice and worth a visit.

Perhaps we were spoiled by previously visiting Villefranche de Conflent, but my feelings re Mont-Louis were of huge disappointment. Although the fortress walls are impressive, the village within has a shabby, run down feel to it.

Nice trip to know a medieval village, very small one including an old fortress, but very picturesque, the mountain views are stunning

Sparse inside, not designed for tourists - a handful of shops and one or two places to eat. UNESCO rating of this small seventeenth-century fortress means that it has lost a belt of trees on the outside (to ensure a better view from afar), and...More

Visited one evening on a ride out by motorbike from Font Romeu- rather disappointed after reading reviews. Rather scruffy and down at heel. Not much to see and no reason to stay! France is scattered with forts and fortified towns and this is nothing special.
