Superb Submarine
Jul 2019
AMAZING. The audio tour was very good. There were display panels with information. There were lots of things to do, especially for children like puzzles on the tablets. The movie on the moving boards with a light show was spectacular. over all it was a 5 star experience. And then to top it all off would be the submarine, it was truly amazing because it had all the original parts and you could go to every area. To get to the submarine you need to go upstairs which is not accessible to wheelchairs or buggies. In the submarine it is tight for space, that might be a problem for some people. The kids loved exploring the submarine though. There was a small gift shop at the end. It cost €8 per adult and €6.50 per child over 5, it was well-worth the admission price. The was lots of free parking in the area.

A disturbing yet enthralling visit to this horrific time
Aug 2019
DO NOT TAKE YOUNG CHILDREN. This is an often chilling and threatening insight into these bleak times with an artistically produced Son e Lumiere presentation projected on to the two feet thick bare concrete walls. These humongous concrete bunkers were just about the only things left standing after the Blitzkreig of the allies of poor Lorient which they almost totally obliterated. The walk through the submarine brought home the terrible tortuous world of submarine life, which however as is often the case was made bearable by the camaraderie on board. The audio guide was narrated in English which was more "Allo Allo" than the T.V. series. It is not necessary to have a native English speaker to do the commentary and really not appropriate, but this was really about as bad as it gets. However overall a terrific experience of horrific times.

The visit of the Flore submarine obviously did not leave you indifferent. For young children, we provide a mobile app-game survey but this one is unfortunately only available in French. We thank you for your visit and for your appreciation.

Informative in every language
Jun 2019
We took the tour and the audio guide. The tour was good, the films captured the elements of how this place was used during WW2, The audio tour of the submarine was also interesting, walking through the narrow vessel you get a feel of life underwater, the audio discriptions were good and made use of stopping/starting when in the correct location.

the sub at St Nazaire is better presented , but this one is in a nicer setting , as in more to see and do around it . not actually clear is it’s a reworked U Boat or a French venture .

Thank you for your visit. The Flore submarine is actually located in an area, "Lorient La Base" of strong tourist attraction, between different museums, visits and activities to be carried out and different places of restoration.

Nicely done and well explained

Not every day you get to visit the inside of a diesel submarine. The museum starts with a good explanation in a static display followed by a visit of the submarine.

They use an audio device that knows exactly where you are so it explains very well what you are looking at.

A must visit.

Very interesting but the nearby Nazi submarine base is much more interesting

You can buy tickets to tour the Eric Tabarly Cite de la Voile Sailing Museum, the decommissioned French submarine “Flore”, as well as the K-3 Former Nazi Uboat pen’s. The Sous-Marin Flore is quite an experience if you have been aboard a submarine. There is also a museum with lots of exhibits, usually in English as well as French.

Disappointing
Aug 2018 • Couples
We came to see the submarine pens which were fascinating, but as we were here thought we would also visit the submarine. I didn't get much out of the museum, and wasn't really sure what some of the exhibits were. The submarine itself was OK but we have visited the Royal Navy Submarine Museum at Gosport a few times and that is much better. At the Royal Navy museum you have a guided tour by an ex-submariner who can give you more of the human perspective and answer any questions you have.

Interesting Visit
Aug 2018 • Family
Visits to the submarine are timed and you can only enter the attraction at the time on your ticket. The first part of your visit is a film projected onto the wall about the history of the submarine base itself. The film is in French but there are English subtitles.

You then move on to an area with various artefacts to look at and then another film, again in French but with English subtitles. This one is quite cleverly presented, with moving screens. You then go on to visit the submarine itself. This is a self guided walk through tour with an audio guide in the language of your choice. The audio guide is very good and describes well what everything is and what life on board would have been like. Well worth a visit.

Good cluster of museums

We paid to see K1, 2 and 3 with a guided tour. Its was something like 37E for the three of us, two adults and a child. The chap that gave us the tour was amazing. We have visited a lot of WW2 museums and attractions and we learned a lot from the guide, not just about the submarine base but history of the town and its importance, key people....

The audio tour of the Flore is good, but not great. It was very quick and a little like a cattle drive. The museum in K2 which is associated with the Flore was ok, informative but not so much that your really sucked in.

All in all, the guided tour is what made it worth while and informative, even though it was 37 degrees its worth it and great value for money.

If you buy the combined ticket as we did, access to the diving and rescue museum in K1 is included and well worth the hour or so it took to get round.

Excellent visit
Jul 2018 • Family
It was a very interesting visit. First in the museum with three short movies about Lorient. All well made and full of information. The best part of the museum but is the multi screen video on events since 1940 and the fall of the city of Lorient to Nazi Germany. Very good reminder of our common history. The visit of the sub itself in simply amazing. How can anybody live in such cramped conditions ? Amazing. Very enjoyable even for our 4 year old boy
