What an unexpected joy.
Such an interesting presentation of the history of pop music both in France and globally.
There was both history of music as well as some specific musical instruments (guitars, bagpipes, etc)
We spent about 2 hours here.
It was not crowded at all during the week in September.
The staff were lovely.

Wacky. Wonderful and just a whole load of fun. A very enjoyable interactive romp through all genres of music including bagpipes, brass bands and hip hop! The kids (10 & 15) boogied away happily for a couple of hours and the grownups might also have rocked out too! Don't miss this if you're in the area.

The staff are extremely helpful, there were free lockers to stow our motorcycle gear and the exhibits are a very enjoyable way to pass 2-3 hours if travelling through the region.

We surprised how long we spent on the rural French choral and accordion sections before we even got to the pop & rock section!

If you're traveling through the center of France, stop by Montluçon. In the midst of the city's medieval core (also well worth seeing), you'll find the excellent Mupop Museum. Mupop presents the story of (principally French) popular music through the lenses of history, technology and art. You'll get a headset that lets you hear any instrument on display just by pointing and clicking. Follow the museum's well-designed chronology, or follow your own interests, from music of 17th century hurdy-gurdys and bag pipes to today's music. The musical instruments themselves are beautifully displayed. There are also spaces devoted to community bands and dance halls, a scopitone, instruments you can play, and a Control Room experience. Plus temporary exhibitions. Mupop is a terrific museum. Give yourself time to explore - there's a lot there.

Spent a few hours here and was fascinated by the beautiful musical instruments and the opportunity to hear them played. The rock section sprung a few memories too. The museum is a bit sparse on the cultural background to some of the songs; I seem to remember the rock in 1968 was also part of a revolution.
However, what's there is well worth a visit and the entrance is less than 10 Eu.

Brilliant! Bright and well laid out. We loved the headsets. It was interesting comparing English and French music, so many parallels.

An interactive journey through music. This museum is all about music and presents a collection of instruments and music pieces in an educational way. How is it interactive? contrarily to other museums you are allowed to be noisy: some instruments are in demonstration. That and the audioguide make the experience really enjoyable for the whole family.
