The story's as bizarre as this eight lane superhighway (for colonies of ants).

I'm not sure precisely how A Rejecelle, allegedly Italy's narrowest street, came to be, but stories of how it occasionally led to complication are interesting. Much as is the case with my above- referenced superhighways, just as Fiats yield to Ferraris and Mazdas to Maseratis, so too did class staus determine who backed up to let another in higher position through Termoli's oddly narrow passageway.

The situation often became tense, according to historical accounts when two of potentially equal status, refused to yield either one to the other. Allegedly sword fights took place to resolve the issue. Similar circumstances allegedly occured a number of times.

This led me to an investigation of other equally stupid bases leading to duels throughout history. In London, two Irishmen, once close friends, in 1731 argued before dueling over the correct spelling of a Greek word. One died, the second was badly injured as a result.

In 1885 Germany, a baron was killed after seventeen bullets were exchanged because one officer had inadvertently doffed a military cap belonging to another.

My final dumb choice of the day involved an 1843 French game of pocket pool leading to an argument in which it was decided the weapons would be red billiard balls. Drawing lots as to who took first aim led to a head strike immediately killing one of the two players.

Possibly the most interesting aspect of many duels is that such needless death could most often have been avoided by simply refusing to participate in the duel itself.

A Rejelle, get in line to claim your place in such "mondo cane" absurdity. Seemingly it takes two to tangle as well as tango.

Interesting little oddity in the old town

We had fun trying to locate this narrow passageway and navigating through it. Once inside with a backpack there was no turning around.
