Like most reasonable sized towns in Italy that are built on large lumps of rock you now find escalators and lifts to get you from the car parks at the bottom up to the higher levels of interest in the town. Spoleto has gone a...More

Spoleto has learned lessons from Perugia. The system of elevators and this travelator as they call is amazing. Will keep one out of the hot summer temperatures and sun. However atriaval at the Rocca and there are 3 flights of stairs more or a long...More

I was amazed at what had been built here. A long couple of moving Walkways connected to elevators to make visiting so much easier for tourists. A must

Having visited several hill-top towns in Umbria, it was a refreshing change to have this series of escaltors to take you up to the top rather than using local buses or simply walking great distances up steep hills. And it is free!!

Also known as the Scala Mobile. A series of escalators to get you up to the top of the hill, or you can get off at a couple of places on the way up.

We were bracing ourselves for the long trek to the top of the hill when we discovered these safe, clean people movers that took us to the top in mere moments!

So many old and picturesque Italian villages are perched on hill tops for their protection through history. Unfortunately this can easily preclude visits from those of us with mobility problems. Spoleto has put in this very attractive and well maintained escalator system that you can...More
