I do not recommend having lunch at Garguilo's restaurant in Sant' Angelo (Sorrento). They overcharge tourists for the bad service they provide, without telling them the value of the dishes.
We were greeted by a Garzon who pointed out that there was no menu, that the menu was him.
When we asked him about the prices of the dishes, he told us not to worry, that it would not be expensive at all. We told him that we had a limited budget for lunch, and he told us that there would be no problem with that.
Since there was no menu, he offered us what he had, two pasta dishes with tomato sauce, something simple (gnocchi with tomato sauce and sorrentinos with tomato sauce).
After that, we asked for the bill.
The Garzón arrived immediately with the machine to charge us 80 euros, without any detail of the lunch that would show the price of each dish.
When we asked him why the bill was so high, he pointed out that each dish cost 25 euros, plus two antipasti (we had only ordered 1).
After talking to him, he asked us how much we wanted to pay for lunch, which shows a lack of seriousness of Garguilo, not having a menu and also a waiter who charges what he wants for lunch. Having the clear intention of charging an excessive price for a simple pasta with tomato, which had no meat or any ingredient that would justify 25 euros per plate, only pasta and tomato sauce.
Finally he charged us 70 euros and not satisfied with that, we pointed out that it was still excessive so he went to a neighboring room and took out 10 euros that he gave us in cash. Demonstrating the lack of seriousness that Garguilo has to treat their customers.
We have been several weeks in Italy, in different cities and we know how much a plate of pasta costs on average.
This is why we do not recommend any tourist to go to this restaurant or to try their oils, as we want to avoid having a bad experience like us.
In Sorrento you can eat well and with the price of each dish in sight, not this kind of poor quality local services.
We went to the restaurant on september 11, 2024.
