The small Chapel to Saint Barbara (m 625 – h 1,45 from Riva del Garda), was built in 1935 by the miners who worked on the conduits of the Ponale power plant. It is placed in a horrid and daring, yet panoramic position, on the slope of Mount Rocchetta near the start of the penstocks feeding the hydroelectrical plant. The Chapel is visible from afar thanks to nighttime lighting.

As a fairly fit and short 5' 2", 50 year old female I found this walk quite a challenge. Others passed me like mountain goats but I eventually got to the top. The path is very rocky and some steps very high for short legs....More

It took me two hours , two puffs of my inhaler, 2 slices of brown bread and two bottles of water , but i made it to the church and was very proud of myself. Beautiful view, and it made me dizzy. So worth it.

A 3 hour round trip, perfect for moderately challenging hike. You’ll need sturdy shoes. Stop at Bastione for a cup of tea on the way up and down. The view is perfect.

This is a tough hike with many switchbacks but the views are amazing and well worth the effort. The trail was busy but everyone was so very friendly. The church has a prayer book. The ground was covered with snow/ice so please be careful.

There is parking after the old power plant on the right side. Then you climb up and you get the best pictures from the chapel.
