With stunning views of the Umbrian countryside outside its doors, the Chiesa San Giovenale is at the western-most edge of the town of Orvieto. With little commercial activity nearby, the church which is open and free to the public every morning and afternoon is a...More

Beautiful medieval church with frescos. Nobody was there except for us. There is a great view from here to the valley below. This is right adjacent to the former St. Agostino church, which is part of the duomo museum that houses some of the magnificent...More

wow, we were so humbled by this visit. The frescos are stunning and the quiet in there is humbling. We sat for 30 minutes just enjoying the simplicity of the space and yet the rich sincere beautiful frescos.

The church was built around 1,000 AD. Beautiful frescoes have been preserved. Well worth visiting while in Orvieto.

This is another small church in Orvieto that contains beautiful stained glass and artistic beauty. The altar and marble arches are incredible.

We came across this church during a stroll around Orvieto in August. The church dates from the 1100s and you sense the true modest religiosity of the building from the moment you enter. The frescoes are a marvel.

We were just wandering the city streets one afternoon and came across San Giovenale church. It was different than most of the churches we visited in Orvieto. I really liked the paintings on the wall and columns. A different architecture on the inside. The outside...More
