This inscription is carved on a fragment of an arc of, perhaps, ciborium of early Christian basilica and is one of extraordinary artifacts visible in the basement of the church. The frieze is located in the space of the apse and the text of the inscription, which are preserved only words "Introibo ad altare Dei", is a usual formula of strips in running dogs that formerly adorned the altar or the different parts of the ciborium. The history of this building, and of our parish community, start from this entry and from the foundation stone of the basilica, where it is engraved with a simple, basic but charming cross. Th

Very simple church that likely gets missed by most tourists. Stunning barrel vaults. The remaining frescoes are still bright. Would likely be cold even on a hot sunny day.

t is an old church in the center square of the city. There is a sacred atmosphere in the interior. Tourists do not seem to have visited so much.

A fascinating historic church. A special church with a rich history. In this mystical and evocative atmosphere, we can discover testimonies of every age. It is rich with many beautiful frescoes. The real discovery is beneath the floor of the church, the beautiful square of...More

Interesting church but lacking the artwork and interesting features of other churches in Orvieto. Worth seeing if you have time.

This church sits on top of a Etruscan temple which is said to be the birthplace of Orvieto before Christ. The area was destroyed by the Romans and later this church built

Next to the town hall is this church with a beautiful cascade and it's 12 sided tower. In the basement are what remains of ancient Etruscan and Roman buildings and an early Christian church. This is very interesting, but only seen by a private tour....More

While the church is not elaborate, it is still an interesting visit. The bell tower is somewhat unique. We enjoy church visits and this one was plain and simple but a good visit none the less.

You will probably pass this church if you walk down the Corso Cavour, it's near the center of town. The church is beautiful and historic but even better is the tour of the extensive ancient remains beneath the church, conducted by an English-speaking Italian archeologist....More

Another church in Italy. The tower is what I liked most with its unusual 12 sided shape. The outside is rather plain but nice. It is a good example of medieval architecture. The inside is also rather plain but it does have some nice frescoes.

Just off the main square is this unspoilt medieval church with some original frescoes preserved. Cold on a windy March day so it must be good on a hot summer day!
