Because of tragic history of WW2, Ortona has not much to offer as 80% of city perished. Castello presents mostly the outer walls, but it offers great view on the see and many picturesque photo shoots.

We visited Castello Aragonese whilst in Abruzzo and quite honestly struggling for things to do and to fill our time. Generally, the whole region seems to lack the push of a good Minister for Tourism so many of the ‘attractions’ are poorly signposted and often...More

The location of the castle at one of Ortona, overlooking the sea to the east and countryside to the north and west makes it a great place for photos. It's free to enter, but does close over lunch. The steps unfortunately don't make it wheelchair...More

If you are in Ortona, you need to visit Castello Aragonese. This Renaissance castle overlooks the Adriatic sea and is fantastic spot for photos. There is no cost to enter the castle (there is not much to see inside), but the views from the walls...More

We only saw the outside of the castle as they are only opened limited hours. Ortona is a city that closes down at 1:00 pm and then reopens later in the day. We happened to be there early and didn't have the time to sit...More

Old castle, beautiful see view. But there is nothing special to see. See view on port and another cost.

Yes, the castle is at the north end of the Passagiatta Orientale and about 2 blocks from the Basilica San Tommaso. I'm not surprised you didn't know it was there though. We just turned the corner and voila!
